** Testimonial for the Week**

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would share some positive progress I made today :-)

Today, is the first day I rode the train to work in years! The last time I was on the train I had a major PANIC ATTACK and could not allow myself to ride it again. I went to extreme lengths to avoid taking it to work. I now only work part-time and I usually drive in, but today I am going out after work and it was much more convenient to take the train. Well, early this morning I started sweating and feeling nervous, but that was it...I knew exactly why I was feeling this way and did not feed into it. I did my usual shake and went about the routine. I did the train ride without any worries and just enjoyed the scenery.

I can't believe some days how my life has changed so much and I am just so thankful to be where I am and not where I was. I thought I would just share this experience with you guys, this is HUGE for me and just so happy and proud that I did it! My journal is going to have lots of happy faces on it today. I just hope that someone who has doubts or anxiety is out here reading this and can begin to trust that something here is magical.

Best Wishes,

Wendy in Philly

**Recipe of the Week**

Zucchini and Feta Cakes

Grate the zucchini coarsely – a food processor is good for this – and put them into a colander. Then sprinkle them with 2 level teaspoons of salt to draw out some of their excess moisture and leave them to drain for about an hour, with a plate or bowl underneath to catch the juices.

Meanwhile, scrub the potatoes and place them in a very large saucepan. Pour just enough boiling water over them to cover them, then simmer gently with a lid on for 8 minutes to parboil them. After that, drain them and leave them aside until they're cool enough to handle. Then using the coarse side of a grater, grate them into a large bowl and season with salt and some freshly milled black pepper.

When the hour is up, rinse the zucchini under cold, running water, squeeze out as much moisture as possible with your hands, then spread them out on a clean towel or paper towels and roll it up to wring out every last drop – this is very important, so the cakes are not wet.

Now, add the zucchini to the grated potatoes, along with the spring onions, mint, feta and beaten eggs and, using two forks, lightly toss it all together. Next, divide the mixture into 16 and shape into rounds about 1/2 inch thick, pressing them firmly together to form little cakes. Then lightly dust the cakes with the oat flour.

To cook them, first pre-heat the oven to 425°F and also pre-heat two baking trays. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a small saucepan, then brush the cakes on both sides with it. When the oven is up to heat, place the cakes on the trays, returning one to the top shelf and the other to the middle shelf for 15 minutes. After that, carefully turn the cakes over and then swap the positions of the trays in the oven and cook them for a further 10-15 minutes. Serve hot.

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

Ok, class one has finished up. Class two will start in early September, but you can sign up now. And yes, you can take it over and no, there is no additional charge if you are a YLD member.

The weight loss in action list (follow up for those who took the class) will start up this week and we will do that practical hands on stuff. It is great to see that so many of you are losing weight and feeling so settled and balanced. I have added the recommendations to my food plan as well and am pleased with what is happening. Oh yah, it works, it works if you work it.

And please make sure to get to the chats. We are having so much fun. This week I will be back with a great topic about some research I found in the American Journal of Clinical nutrition. You will be very comforted by it. I loved *open mike* last week, but am ready to teach again.

For those of you who are not yet YLD members, Click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun.

**David's Corner **

As I had said last week, David has been on vacation, so I was restocking our supply shed. It made me smile. We have all this stuff out there that I just love. So I found the box of little Italian boxes with pencil leads, heh heh.

I took mine to Maine. And brought a couple of the little notebooks that fit inside. Put it in my backpack. So when I went out on the boat to an Island, I took it out and made sketches. And notes...you know the writer in me, LOL. What is it about being sugar sensitive that we love these little boxes?

I will be going on Tuesday to work on the recordings for this year's ranch. What fun is that!

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

Thanks
David

And of course, we have something for everybody in our store

**Our Online Groups**

Most of us underestimate the importance of breakfast and try to do all the steps in the first week. When that doesn't work, we begin again. We concentrate on Step 1, breakfast, and find our lives begin to change.

The RadiantBreakfast list is a great place to learn the nuances of breakfast, build a strong foundation for the rest of the steps, and find how helpful it is to share our journey with others. It is great for new people and those who have been on the program a long time. Sharing helps everyone.

The awesome thing is we all, Step 1 or Step 7, eat breakfast every single day. How cool is that?

We'd love it for you to Sign up. We love new members!

Some Thoughts on Well Being
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I have been reading some research material from the American Psychological Society and thought it would be fun to talk some about some of what I am reading. Much of this material is more academic than excites me. But there was a scale of "psychological well being" that I found intriguing. It measures self-acceptance, positive relations, purpose in life, environmental mastery, personal growth and autonomy.

These sound a lot like what happens as people do the food. So now I am thinking what fun it would be if we began to have a dialogue on our forum and lists about what it is that happens with the food. I am going to start by sharing what I notice.
  • Blame and entitlement shift to taking responsibility and humility.
  • Despair shifts to hopefulness.
  • Anger shifts to humor.
  • Inadequacy shifts to empowerment.
  • Isolation shifts to connection.
  • Arguing changes to sharing.
  • Denial moves to disclosure.
When I started, I thought it was about healing depression and addiction. I thought we were creating a health system. I had no idea what else would come. I thought the changes I experienced, all of the above and more, were personal things coming from my own journey. But as time passed, it seems that these changes come with the territory. They are developmentally predictable and way more universal than I ever imagined

Doing the food changes something profound. It is as if it resets us to a state of openness - open heart ready for healing. And then all the other stuff we all do has a place to sit. I often use the image of a cracked bowl. We can fill it a thousand times, spend a lifetime trying and we still are empty. If we fix the crack, we get filling up and spilling over.

This community, this website is made possible by the tireless work of close to 50 volunteers. They are spilling over and share the recovery, the radiance that doing the food has brought them. Go read their stories if you want to know what is in store. And come share your stories as well.

With deep gratitude,

Kathleen
