WORKING WITH KATHLEEN
Coaching is a special offering for people who are serious about enhancing their programs and would like to have ongoing coaching. Support is provided in a small group with people who are looking at similar concerns. Kathleen is part of each
coaching group. This is not a class but is a process to support your progress. We have added a special chat for people in coaching. It meets twice a week to accommodate those who are in Greenwich Mean Time and those who are in USA time. If you are just starting, own the Step lists to learn the basics.
Coaching includes several options now: Return to Radiance Coaching for those who have done the steps in the past and then drifted and would like to get back on track. This is a good place to plug in if you have gotten wobbly and would like to restart your program.
Getting Started Coaching is for people who are new to the program but highly motivated. This group is for those who believe in the concepts, want to do the steps in a structured way and are ready to move forward. Entry into this group requires a specific application process. This is a new option.
Skilled Coaching is for people who are steady on the steps and ready to work on Step 7 life skills.
The fee for these three coaching options is $20 @ week, billed in 2 week intervals. The coaching is done in an email group and assumes active participation by the members. The process includes peer support with guidance and direction by Kathleen.
If you wish to join coaching send an email and say what you are interested in and why.
I also provide individual intensive coaching called Signature
Coaching. I can help you step out of the craziness of sugar addiction, return to steadiness and clarity after slipping away, slow down and focus on your recovery, or deepen a steady rhythm of recovery. This particular option is especially helpful if you did the steps a while ago and then kinda meandered away. Or if you are facing some
intense times and would. like skillful support. But I can tell you that it is a good time to do coaching.
This is a 3 month process that includes doing an in-depth assessment of where you are in the process, designing an individual plan for you and then talking with me once a week via phone or Zoom to work on your progress. You will learn to do an efficient journal and to identify your strengths and challenges.
This is the way to step out of feeling overwhelmed with where to start and what to do. Because it is so individualized, we can work on what is right for you at this point in your journey. People tell me that coaching helps them feel safe and focused. We work with your
style, your rhythm. This is a unique opportunity to release your fear and let go of shame. The guidance can shorten and ease your process so that in 3 months you will do what you might take a year to do on your own. Signature coaching is also an excellent way to tackle any special needs you may have. like wanting to get sober, or dealing with insulin resistance, or integrating doing the food with special medical concerns.
And in fact, we have developed some creative personalized plans especially suited to where people are in the program and what will work best to support them. Call 505-345-3737 if you would like to chat.

"As you learn to handle new situations, as you learn to recover from a slip, you will become smarter and savvier each time."
Hi Everyone,
I thought I would share some positive progress I made today :-)
Today, is the first day I rode the train to work in years! The last time I was on the train I had a major PANIC ATTACK and could not allow myself to ride it again. I went to extreme lengths to avoid taking it to work. I now only work part-time and I usually drive in, but today I am going out after work and it was much more convenient to take the train. Well, early this morning I started
sweating and feeling nervous, but that was it...I knew exactly why I was feeling this way and did not feed into it. I did my usual shake and went about the routine. I did the train ride without any worries and just enjoyed the scenery.
I can't believe some days how my life has changed so much and I am just so thankful to be where I am and not where I was. I thought I would just share this experience with you guys, this is HUGE for me and just so happy and proud that I did it! My journal is going to have lots of happy faces on it today. I just hope that someone who has doubts or anxiety is out here reading this and can begin
to trust that something here is magical.
Best Wishes,
Wendy in Philly

David said, "Your puppy needs a bath." That meant my puppy had peed in her pen and then lay down in it and mopped the floor with her downy little fur. She got her first bath in the sink. Andrew did the honors. He got soaked and she had a blast. She is clearly a water dog and needs a pool to play in. I
think a trip to the store is warranted.
I got my post shelter-in-place haircut after 4 months so we were a pretty pair. Her legs stretch out every night and grow so each morning she is taller. She no longer thinks of herself as a puppy, but has decided that she is a DOG with certain entitlements. If the big dogs get to lick the plates for pre-clean before the dishwasher, she has to be included. I think we might call her sassy LOL.

You will never guess why I am sharing a zucchini recipe LOL
- 6 medium zucchini
- 4 medium thin skinned potatoes
- 4 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
- 1 lb feta cheese, crumbled
- 4 spring onions, finely chopped
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 tablespoons oat flour
- 5 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and freshly milled black pepper
Grate the zucchini coarsely – a food processor is good for this – and put them into a colander. Then sprinkle them with 2 level teaspoons of salt to draw out some of their excess moisture and leave them to drain for about an hour, with a plate or bowl underneath to catch the juices.
Meanwhile, scrub the potatoes and place them in a very large saucepan. Pour just enough boiling water over them to cover them, then simmer gently with a lid on for 8 minutes to parboil them. After that, drain them and leave them aside until they're cool enough to handle. Then using the coarse side of a grater, grate them into a large bowl and season with salt and some freshly milled black
pepper.
When the hour is up, rinse the zucchini under cold, running water, squeeze out as much moisture as possible with your hands, then spread them out on a clean towel or paper towels and roll it up to wring out every last drop – this is very important, so the cakes are not wet.
Now, add the zucchini to the grated potatoes, along with the spring onions, mint, feta and beaten eggs and, using two forks, lightly toss it all together. Next, divide the mixture into 16 and shape into rounds about 1/2 inch thick, pressing them firmly together to form little cakes. Then lightly dust the cakes with the oat flour.
To cook them, first pre-heat the oven to 425°F and also pre-heat two baking trays. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a small saucepan, then brush the cakes on both sides with it. When the oven is up to heat, place the cakes on the trays, returning one to the top shelf and the other to the middle shelf for 15 minutes. After that, carefully turn the cakes over and then swap the positions of the
trays in the oven and cook them for a further 10-15 minutes. Serve hot.

Some Thoughts on Where We Are
Kathleen DesMaisons, PhD
Six months ago, life seemed reasonably predictable. Last week, it felt as if I was so psychically fatigued that I barely knew my name or the day of the week. I felt as if my brain worked before and now it was like lacey fern seaweed that has holes in in, tears made my careless fingers.
It started with the murder of George Floyd. I have seen murders on TV, in movies, but seeing a murder in real time with 3 guys standing by watching changed me. For me it was distilled down to one black man who didn't need to die. It rocked my soul, and has continued to demand that I think about living in white privilege and who do I want to be.
I have been watching the things I valued stripped away one at a time. Natural parks, educational systems, health care, constitutional rights. Misogyny, racism, homophobia, brutality, abuse have reared up on an unimaginable level. And then a pandemic that has killed more than were obliterated at Hiroshima. My brain went on tilt.
My food stumbled. I made some changes that seemed like logical refinements, but it was too much, too fast and put me into biochemical shock. I ate less and my despair grew. Rosie arrived and the gap between my imagined "puppy bliss" and sharp teeth, continued peeing and pooping in the house all sort of collided as life is wont to do. The good part of the story is the recovery is an anchor. Do
the food, Kathleen. Make space for joy dots, Kathleen. Stop fretting. Teach Rosie no biting. Spend time outside with her. Take the dogs to watch the ducks. Clean your house. Do the newsletter. I found a newsletter about what happens when we do the food. It took four days for peace to settle in. Today Rosie knows her name and I remember the unthinkable equation that what I eat changes everything.
I will have more to say as we go. I do not have answers yet for all the unraveling, but I absolutely know that Grace is unfolding, we are not alone and we have an answer that will guide us in ways we cannot even imagine. Here is what happens with the food. This is not about stopping sugar, LOL. Do not kid yourself. Hang on for the rise.
- Blame and entitlement shift to taking responsibility and humility.
- Despair shifts to hopefulness.
- Anger shifts to humor.
- Inadequacy shifts to empowerment.
- Isolation shifts to connection.
- Arguing changes to sharing.
- Denial moves to disclosure.
When I started, I thought it was about healing depression and addiction. I thought we were creating a health solution. I had no idea what else would come. I thought the changes I experienced, all of the above and more, were personal things coming from my own journey. But as time passed, it seems that these changes come
with the territory. They are developmentally predictable and way more universal than I ever imagined
Doing the food changes something profound. It is as if it resets us to a state of openness - open heart ready for healing. And then all the other stuff we all do has a place to sit. I often use the image of a cracked bowl. We can fill it a thousand times, spend a lifetime trying and we still are empty. If we fix the crack,
we get filling up and spilling over.
This community, this website is made possible by the tireless work of a group of volunteers. They share their recovery, the radiance that doing the food has brought them. Go read their stories if you want to know what is in store. And come share your stories as well.
With deep gratitude,
Kathleen
