Hi {!firstname_fix}

We have four classes starting up Monday. If you come right now, sign up, then immediately return the invitation email to join the group through which the class will be conducted, we can fit you in... Just click on the links below.

Step Five: The Art of Browning Your Family
Brain Chemsistry: Beta Endorphin Week 2 (no new registrations now)
Little Sugar Addicts
Weightlossintro (you do not have to be a YLD member)

The Step Five class is going to present stuff I haven't written before. I am being tutored by one of the world's experts on Brown stuff. It is really fun and I think we will have a blast learning about the antioxidents in endosperm. We are also going to learn about how to get your family to eat that stuff.

In Little Sugar Addicts we are going to talk about how the steps for children differ from the steps for grownups. Both you and your children may register. Please do so separately using their email address if possible. And if you have teens, they can come without you - a VERY effective way for them to buy in.

The Weight Loss class is for those of you who are interested in weight loss. You do not have to be a member of YLD to join this class. This is an introductory class which will give you a sense of some of the things to do to be emotionally ready to actually plan a weight loss program.

We have posted a schedule of the classes for the next month.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

A copy of this newsletter may also be found posted on the web at http://www. radiantrecovery.com/weeklynewsletter. If you wish to unsubscribe, use the link at the bottom of the page. Do not email me, do not get mad at me, just click on the link and you will be forever removed.

** Quote From Kathleen **

Do the food, do the steps.

All that stuff is biochemical and will go away when you are balanced

You can make it boring and fight all the way or you can relax in knowing that you have a map and now just have to make the journey.

** Testimonial for the Week**

I went to a gathering at friends today. When I realized I'd better have lunch - I grabbed 2 hard boiled eggs, some left over chicken, whole wheat crackers, baggie full of spinach and half an apple and ate in the car on the way. Had coffee when I got there.

The big deal??? This is unbelievably HUGE! GIGANTIC! MONUMENTAL! The first time in forever that I can remember feeling so just happy and comfortable. People were eating all sorts of junk and 2 hrs into the event I realized it had NEVER once crossed my mind to want any. I don't mean I was using control or being a good girl. I just wasn't thinking about wanting any.

This is CRAZY!! And it's not just the food. It's that I was having a good time. Holy cow!!

I'm only on step 3 so I really am only beginning to address leg number one of the stool - aren't I? Well, it would appear that just this much of a change and a bit more balance with the food is making all 3 legs less wobbly cuz I feel so much better.

I think I have gone from 99.9999 percent weepy, cranky, emotional, volatile, deoressed, immobile, angry, anxious ... (what did I leave out?) to only 5 or 10 percent. SWEAR!!

Is this possible?? Should we talk about step 4?????

Thanks - love jacquelin

**Recipe of the Week**

By the way, I am LOVING Naomi's recipes. She and Sheila are talking about teaming up to do a class on cooking for the sugar-sensitive household.

I just love recipes that have as many parts of the meal in one dish. Here is a great recipe that has the protein and brown, all in one.

Chicken Potato Kugel

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place oil in a roasting pan and place inside the oven to warm up. Meanwhile, mix garlic, onion powder, mustard and cayenne together. Spread the mustard mixture over the chicken and place in heated roasting pan. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

Grate potatoes with skins (food processor recommended) and squeeze out any liquid. Grate onion. Mix potatoes, onion, eggs, salt and pepper until combined. Pour potato batter over the chicken. Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

**Radiant Ambassadors**

We include these little quotes so you can see all the ways to share the good news.

At the last party at Grace's school the teacher was kind of complaining about all the sugar, yeah! She noticed that I brought Grace bubbly water and so she said, 'Why don't you bring in water for the Valentine's Day party?' I, of course, happily agreed. Progress! I think I will also give her a copy of Little Sugar Addicts.

**Our Online Groups**

Hi, I'm JoAnna, liaison for the RadiantVegetarians group. We talk about how we can do the program as vegetarians. We talk a lot about protein. Most of us didn't pay much attention to it before this program. We talk about which foods we count as protein and how to get enough protein as a vegetarian. Then there's getting used to all that protein! It can seem pretty overwhelming at times. Luckily we can baby step it, just like we've learned to do with other parts of the program.

We have people who are new to the program, some who have been on Step 7 a long time, and many who are somewhere between. There are all different types of vegetarians as well. We exchange ideas and support.

If you're a vegetarian, please join us! This program can be done as a vegetarian. And .... there are other sources of vegetarian protein besides beans!

Some Thoughts on Step 7
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

A number of people have asked me how to do Step 7. They want to know what it is, what kind of magic comes on the day it arrives. Step seven is different from the other steps. I don't think there is a moment so much as a process. Step seven is about learning all the things that you 'forgot' while you were off using your drugs of choice sugar and white stuff.

In alcoholism treatment, we know that getting sober is really just the beginning of treatment not the end. Here, step 7 is not the end of the process but the beginning of the life phase. But it is different from the other steps because we don't tell you how, we support you in discovering what and how your discoveries work for you. You might find that exercise grounds you so you work on that first. You might see that taking omega three fatty acids such as fish or flax oil is in place because you put those in your shake. But maybe you do not know how to play and this scares you and sends you into a panic. Or perhaps you discover that you have no intimacy skills. Using sugar and white stuff kept you numb so you didn't have to deal with the fact that your husband uses porn as a way to cope or your girlfriend is an alcoholic. You may even feel that step 7 is no fun and overwhelming.

You may feel that you did all that work to 'arrive' and now this huge mountain of 'more' makes you feel totally overwhelmed. This is natural and is simply part of the process. But it is disorienting and our leadership team has been thinking about it a lot. Val suggested that part of the problem is that when our food is steady we simply live step 7 and really don't talk about it much. So the people new to it don't have a role model to understand that doing the laundry without resentment is what step 7 is about.

Step 7 demands a different quality of doing the food. It means attention to timing, being meticulous and not obsessive, it means being consistent and attentive. And staying connected. Justas (that means sloppy food or sloppy timing) can creep into Step 7 really easily and then the joy of it turns back to resentment about all the 'work' again.

At any rate, I thought you would enjoy the quick start list I sent to the Step 7 list. And, also, you have gotten me so excited by this reflection, I think we should do a Step 7 class and have one of those great dialogues about it.
