November 11, 2013 Hi {!firstname_fix} I heard the cranes calling this morning. It is a sure sign of Fall here in New Mexico. I live near the Rio Grande River which is their flyway. You can hear the calls here. Near the end of the month, I will go down to the Bosque Del Apache for sunrise when they all take off for the morning forage. It is an experience unlike anything I have ever had. I am settled back in my gym routine. This morning I was able to button jeans that I have not worn for 2 years. It was nice. I happen to love this particular pair of jeans. Even nicer I think to know that I have truly cut the cord to my scale. The jeans fitting was a surprise. I decided to spend 90 days just focusing on what I need to do for weight loss. That task I am going to talk about more in the article below. But it is turning out to be fun, how delightful is that. These classes will begin Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

**Testimonial of the Week ** This is how it worked where the Appleton video took place. I am going to send a copy of LSA and the video to my school board. Also, as a teacher, I do the best I can in my own classroom. The other teachers in my school pretty much know what I do and how I feel about sugar etc...but if they are in denial as to their own problems with sweets, they don't really want to hear it. I do this one person at a time. My teaching partner is very supportive of this and does the same thing I do. This year, I am going to go one step further...not just promoting ONLY healthy snacks, I am going to try to insist that EVERYONE bring a snack every day with protein in it. I can do whatever I can in the classroom, but if the district is still giving the kids less than quality food, then we have a lot more to do. I will try with my parents too, but that is also difficult since most don't even speak English...but I'll do the best I can. The kids are one of the best methods of getting to them...and I tell them how I feel about the stuff and what they are and aren't allowed to eat in my classroom. Since kindergartners still like/love their teacher, it seems to be helpful!!! I have had parents tell me I have brainwashed their children (in a good way). It's very cool watching a 5 year old tell their parent that a lollipop isn't a healthy snack. So...I guess where I'm going with this....you can do whatever you can, one teacher at a time...one parent at a time, one child at a time. You have already planted seeds. **Science Bits ** I want to start sharing some interesting bits and bobs that are coming across my desk. Here is an article talking about the use of SSRI antidepressants for mild to moderate depression. It was done by the Journal of the American Medical Association which is certainly not some fly by night alternative medicine thing (smile). They reviewed 30 years of studies and found that SSRIs are no better than placebo in treating the symptoms of depression. Maybe there is another alternative. Seems to me that Potatoes Not Prozac does a very fine job of treating those mild to moderate symptoms. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Ambassadors ** John has been talking with his friends about Radiant Recovery recently and shared this post on the Ambassadors list: "I lent Potatoes not Prozac and Little Sugar Addicts to a friend of mine who I had met for coffee. She wanted to know about Ranch and got interested in it from there. I'm not sure she'll actually take to the program but it's so fun to sit among my 12-step friends and talk openly about RR. I feel in some ways I need to keep it a secret because it is as people say in the community "work being done below the radar." And also because I can have a hard time explaining it. But really it's just thrilling to talk about it with people now. The fear of looking like a weirdo is pretty much gone because of my own recovery and because I know there is such a strong group of people behind me that understand." Wonderful, isn't it? **How I Found Radiant Recovery ** Hi everyone, I am Ellen from Livingston, NJ. A friend told me about Potatoes Not Prozac, then I got Your Last Diet (still working my way through that). I am doing breakfast and recently added journaling, as I wanted to start "listening" to my body. I am looking forward to learning all I can and progressing to radiance! **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. This morning I started a new journal. Of course I use Your Body Speaks. I couldn't help myself. I have to give you a personal blow by blow. The cover is heavier and the pages are bright white with heavier paper. No dog ears for us now! And it has this gorgeous spiral binding. I know, I know you can think I am nuts, but these things make me excited. So I decided to go through it as if it was the first time. Here is what I found:
Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Kitchen ** I decided I wanted to have a breakfast brown with my morning shake. So I played around with a couple of different recipes. These are absolutely perfect for me. I would call them *savory on savory* since they are not sweet and in no way resemble those sweet ones I had many years ago. Preheat oven to 375 F. Spray muffin tin with cooking spray. Saute and cool: 1 cup cooked sausage 1 medium onion 1/2 cup mushrooms if you like them Then mix these ingredients in a bowl: 3/4 Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free biscuit mix (Or Kathleen's Baking Mix - see below) 2 eggs 3/4 chicken broth Then add cooled meat mix and stir. Add 4 ounces (3/4 cup) of shredded cheese. I used mozzarella, but you can use whatever you have. Cook about 30 min. I listened for the right smell. LOL. Well, I smelled. Of course I am a *casual* cook. But gosh, these taste great. Perfect with my shake. I just microwave for 30 sec. Kathleen’s Baking Mix: 3/4 cup oat flour 3/4 cup brown rice flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. non aluminum baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda For more great program-friendly recipes, check out our cookbook in the store and visit our online Radiant Recipes site. **********************************************************************
**Radiant YLD ** Last week's chats were rather remarkable. I wanted to help people start thinking about weight loss in a new way. I was just starting the Getting Ready for Weight Loss class so was thinking about the four parts of losing weight in Radiant Recovery. I thought it would be fun for us to chat about where we all are in that process. As you know, the 4 parts are:
This happened at both the Eurochat and the USA chat. Different tone, but same dramatic awareness. It was lovely. This is the BEST of what chat gives us...and what we will now talk about in YLD. If you are not a member, you are missing the leading edge of the program. If you would like to join, come find us here **********************************************************************
**Radiant Conversations ** We have a new portal for the Conversations program. Come check it out here. And yah, here is where we are just having plain ole fun. **Our Online Groups ** By popular demand, we have set up RadiantNJ...just can't help it. There are a gaggle of Garden State Geese who want to be playing together. This is how it goes. A group of people don't want to cross the river over into NY city and suddenly a great hue and cry arises and poof, a new geo group emerges. Do come join us. **********************************************************************
**Thinking About Weight Loss ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
Last week we were talking about weight loss. We have a number of people who feel they are ready to move forward with losing weight so I decided it would be fun to go through what is involved. I outlined the four parts of weight loss:
1 = 4/5 2 = 4/5 3 = 3/5 4 = 2.5/5 5 = 4/5 6 = 4/5 7 = green smoothies And then all the people in chat shared where they are. Here are a couple of other examples. They are pretty representative. 1: 4/5 2: 3/5 3: 4/5 4: 2/5 5: 4/5 6: 5/5 7: one more month til I am on 7 1: 4/5 2: 2/5 3: 1/5 4: 2/5 5: 4/5 6: not there yet 7: not there yet After we had done this, we sort of had this group awakening that being honest and really disclosing what is going on was wonderful. We saw that, in fact, most of us are far more “casual” about our steps than we have been disclosing. And that there was more shame about that than we had realized. But as we shared, it became more and more functional. We decided that we would all work on mastery of step one. We know the drill and we can simply do it. And I realized that we need to talk steps rather than weight loss. The other thing that was incredibly clear to me...there is a total correlation between “success’ with weight loss and QUALITY of step mastery. I am not talking about perfection, but mastery. So, let’s do it. Thanks for reading! If you know someone who could benefit from this, feel free to forward it to them. Not a subscriber yet? Like what you have read?
