Hi {!firstname_fix}

Oh, this morning is one of those exquisite NM days - crystal blue skies, still air, hot air balloons out early. All dogs resting in the sun. David and I have been out in the fulfillment center (make that our back shed) packing boxes with George's® Restore. We have a system so it moves quickly. I was reflecting on the recent article about Walmart warehouse workers getting no breaks, having no bathrooms, and working long hours. I think I prefer working for Radiant Recovery® LOL with this timeless rhythm, reading labels and knowing the people that are getting shake. England, Maine, New Jersey, California, and so on. I guess this would be the best of a family business. Pack boxes, put them in the car and take them to the post office. Thankfully, we have a 7 day post office down at the airport. And we love our customers.

We are looing for some people to help us with our Facebook Group and Page...just to work with our team. Let me know if you love Facebook and would like to help. Email me at kathleen@radiantrecovery.com.

Resting when you are tired may seem like an outrageous idea, but learning to take care of your body is the focus of your path to recovery.

**Testimonial of the Week **

I found the forum and have done some of the classes too. I've found everything really helpful.

I've been keeping a journal for a few months now and I'm finding it fascinating to track how my body responds to food and also to things like being outdoors, deadlines and pressure, getting sunshine or natural light, etc.

I eat breakfast within an hour of getting up pretty much every day, occasionally it will slip into the second hour but that's happening less often.

I'm now eating 3 meals a day, some days also a snack or two depending on how long it is between meals. I'm eating loads of veggies, a serve of protein with every meal, I no longer eat 'white things' and I haven't had sugar for 4 months (I'd cut it out just before reading Potatoes not Prozac and haven't re-introduced it).

I feel absolutely amazing. I have never felt like this in my life. I never thought it was possible for me to be calm, positive and optimistic as my default setting, but that's now how I am most of the time.

Cheers, Donna

**Radiant Ambassadors **

Have you ever talked with a doctor about Radiant Recovery?

Well, Cinzia told us about her experiences of talking with a health care professional about RR - I thought you might enjoy it:

"I had my first appointment with a nutritionist at an integrative medicine clinic yesterday. It was very interesting...she asked about all kinds of stuff in my life, not just my symptoms and my food.

We talked about emotions, time of life, my job, relationships, and of course addiction and food. I had brought my journal, which she LOVED. She really looked at it (from the front pages of Kathleen's info, thru my entries, to blank pages). She was thrilled by it! If I had had a blank one, I would have given it to her. (I did tell her where she could get some of her own.) (smile)

I also happened to bring along an extra copy of PnP. She said she had read it years ago but seemed a bit vague about it. I told her this was a new edition and gave it to her. I think I kind of knocked her socks off (do you Brits say this??). I mean, she really liked it when she saw what I eat, how I track my feelings and symptoms (and cycle), how I make sure to drink enough water, how I know that little headache in the back of my head is telling me I'm dehydrated, etc...basically, how I follow the RR program.

I have another appointment with her next week, so we'll discuss it some more. When I gave her the book, she said, "I know someone who would really benefit from this." I suspect she knows LOTS of people who could really benefit, LOL!

I was a little surprised she wasn't too familiar with RR, since she's very into a holistic approach to nutrition and health. I have a feeling that she'll become quite familiar with it, and not just from me. It's exciting to see a healthcare professional's interest in the program. Yay!"

How exciting!

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi. I’m Marcy from Pittsburgh, PA. I recently was ‘informed’ by Amazon.com that there was a book called The Sugar Addicts Total Recovery Program. Since I’ve known I’m a sugar addict since my OA days (starting almost 30 years ago), I purchased it. Haven’t gotten all the way through the book yet, but found this website in it and also got the Potatoes Not Prozac book to read. So I’m a beginning beginner, I guess. Need to find out more about the program, which is why I enrolled in this class.

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Well, of course our excitement of the week was tracking our Restore coming from Wisconsin to Colorado and then down to Albuquerque. The big truck pulls up, he takes the plastic and cardboard sheets off the pallets and we stack it in the driveway and then get it back to the processing shed. A room full of cartons with shake is a nice site. Both Kathleen and I move into high gear to get shake out the door to all of you who have been so patiently waiting. In the middle of all this, I was coaching and my team was playing in the city tournament. No, we were not out in the first round, LOL, stayed to the end and are the CHAMPS! It's been a weekend of my two favorite thing...shake and volleyball.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Radiant Kitchen **

Allison’s Apple Pie

Today, I made applesauce. I took a three pound bag of macintosh apples, and cut them into small pieces, with the skin still on (removing cores, of course). I cooked them on low until they were all mushed together and soft, and added lots of cinnamon, ginger, allspice and nutmeg.

After dinner, I took a whole wheat tortilla and put it in a pie plate. Then I spread a layer of applesauce on it, and put it in the oven at 350 until the applesauce was hot and the tortilla was crispy. Yum! The perfect ending to my meal of roast turkey thigh and oven roasted vegetables.

**Radiant YLD **

While we were in the shed packing Shake, David had the radio on to some country western station. They were talking about some star who just had a baby and is down to within 10 pounds of her pre pregnancy weight. I did think, "Oh good grief, how sad is that." But then I thought of all of the folks who still have their baby weight 20 years later. And diets are just not working. And they still carry all the shame of not being how they were at 20. So...if you are one of those ladies, Your Last Diet is for you...and we are starting that new class about getting ready for weight loss. It's a nice time of year to get focused and balanced.

**Radiant Conversations **

We have a new portal for the Conversations program. Come check it out here.

We have been having some fascinating discussions about the direction of the radiant recovery online group. I asked the group if they might talk a little less to make room for newcomers...and man, did that touch a lot of buttons for some people. Be quiet, be good, stop making noise, stop having fun...pages and pages rolled out. Old messages, old messages about giving up our joy, our playfulness, being good, being quiet. So...since that really and truly was not the message, LOL, we are gonna talk about what happens when an old story of wounding gets touched. And we are going to talk about how to heal those places.

**The Power of Being an Introvert **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

Those of you who have been around for a while, know that we have worked hard to understand and value what the introverts bring not only to our community here, but to recovery in general. We have been doing some deep thinking about what our role is in service to all of you who want to get better. We have a lot of introverts here. and that is a very, very good thing. Here is why.

Introverts:
  • are thoughtful and reflective
  • have an astounding inner life
  • have an amazing capacity to listen
  • are self-contained and carry grace within themselves
  • take the time to make sense of the world before acting
  • are deeply compassionate
  • are aware of others, and take that into consideration when making decisions
  • can sort out many variables and make sense of complexity
  • can persist and follow through on tasks that require attention
  • are incredibly steady
  • have amazing powers of understanding how things work
  • have a depth of awareness that is powerful and mighty
  • are very, very funny
  • are able to be quiet and calm when all around is not
  • are good observers
  • are VERY Intuitive
  • are able to see things in others that many fail to see
  • are adept at conflict resolution
  • are able to enjoy themselves when no-one else is around
  • are able to balance the impulsivity of others
  • are able to see the big picture, yet understand systems theory in depth
  • are very able to in assuming a calming presence
  • will "hold the place" for others
  • are in it for the long haul
  • are very tenacious and persevering
  • are very loyal and "true blue"
  • are very trustworthy
  • rarely step on others' toes
  • allow others to be in the limelight
  • are graceful
  • don't get bored easily
  • think about the consequences of their actions
  • have a quiet energy" (told to me by an extrovert)
  • are very real and vulnerable when they feel safe and can set the tone for that
  • are not satisfied with cursory statements and "I'm fine's." They gently probe or nudge to go deeper
  • notice quieter, peaceful things and help extroverts to see them (or maybe this is just healed SS)
  • despite perhaps an awkward first impression, can really help include others and help them feel OK
  • are very loyal to those they love and care for
  • help keep extroverts from burnout. :)
  • are careful with what they put into their body (more thoughtful about it?), or what they read/watch etc. (again, maybe just healed SS)
  • see the vision/big picture, and also can help encourage those who are playing a part in it
  • see others and their contributions, because they are sitting back more and watching
  • really admire bubbly, outgoing people! (at least this one does) But we also naturally appreciate the quiet ones and give them a chance, the benefit of the doubt (because we understand them!)
  • have the wackiest, goofiest dry humor I know. And I am very partial to it myself. :)
  • read until the cows come home, and process a book for days. I can be on a "book high" and be digesting it/more pensive, but then after it makes me more talkative as I describe all I'm learning. It becomes more a part of me as I process with others, especially extroverts. :)
  • don't require 'babysitters' or entertainment
  • can amuse themselves almost anywhere
  • have deep inner reserves and resources
  • understand other introverts and respect their space
  • are sensitive to other peoples' moods
