Hi {!firstname_fix}

Our newsletter is arriving late this week. Forty-five people came to Ranch from all over the world. It was an amazing experience for all of us. Each year Ranch deepens. This year we had 8 countries represented and many, many states. Ironically, our first gathering was interrupted by a power outage. Albuquerque actually had a tiny tornado that knocked out a power transmitter. Talk about power surges! Then, when I next sat down to complete the newsletter, we had another power outage. We are all collecting ourselves and I will be writing lots more about what happened in Sunday's newsletter.

This class will begin Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 1

Step 1 (1 week) - is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start. We are running a special and reducing the price and the time for this class. It will now be a one week intensive. Let's see if it suits you better.

This class will be an intensive tutorial. There will be homework and you will be asked to be an active participant. This is an unusual opportunity to get answers. This is for the motivated and willing. You will learn skills and have a LOT of support

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial of the Week **

For the last 3 years I've noticed that we have the same male blackbird frequent our garden. How do I know? Well, he has a droopy left wing - but that sure doesn't stop him!

This year he has a partner and they have had two chicks - their nest is at the bottom of our garden. For the last 2 weeks the chicks have been getting progressively more confident, hopping out from the foliage, moseying on over to the veggie patch to be fed juicy worms by either mum or dad. They are the same size as their parents, have black bottoms and shorter tails and lighter brown feathers elsewhere. I've loved watching them from the kitchen window, seeing how brave they're getting.

As I was going to pick up DD from school this afternoon I saw a kerfuffle with both mum and dad blackbird chasing off a magpie. They were not happy campers. When I returned home, I discovered why - there were lots of baby blackbird feathers scattered around the lawn next to a lifeless body. I sat in the warmth of the garden for a while with my feelings. I watched as the dad flitted onto the fence calling for the baby. It was so sad.

Now, pre-recovery I probably wouldn't have noticed the blackbird at all, let alone the fact that he had chicks. But when I saw those feathers I cried. I remember when I used to be so scared of 'feeling.' But the more I do it, the more I know that they're ok (and that I will be too) and that they just wash through me.

Imagine the scene - deserted island; blue skies; the sound of waves lapping at the shore - there's only one thing missing - one of Kathleen's books, LOL.

If you could only take one of Kathleen's books which one would it be?

The truly classic Potatoes not Prozac?

The 'does what it says' Your Last Diet?

Sugar Addicts Total Recovery Program with its doughnuts on the front cover of the UK version?

Little Sugar Addicts?

Let's share our favourites and why - we could always share them with friends on Facebook or twitter?

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi,

I am a new starter to the program! I discovered Potatoes not Prozac when my sister lent me a copy. We are both sugar sensitive and have spent years trying to figure out why we feel the way we do. I started on step one about two weeks ago but only managed a week because of Christmas disrupting things. I am really keen to start my journey again and wanted to have the additional support and motivation from the classes and lists.

** Radiant Kitchen **

High Protein Pancakes

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ tsp vanilla
Directions:

Blend in a blender.

I also slice Macintosh apples onto the griddle and pour the batter over it so that the apples are cooked right into the pancakes. We eat them with just butter and we all just love them.

For more great program-friendly recipes, check out our cookbook in the store and visit our online Radiant Recipes site.

** Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Step Two list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

  • are able to be quiet and calm when all around is not
  • are good observers
  • are VERY Intuitive
  • are able to see things in others that many fail to see
  • are adept at conflict resolution
  • are able to enjoy themselves when no-one else is around
  • are able to balance the impulsivity of others
  • are able to see the big picture, yet understand systems theory in depth
  • are very able to in assuming a calming presence
  • will "hold the place" for others
  • are in it for the long haul
  • are very tenacious and persevering
  • are very loyal and "true blue"
  • are very trustworthy
  • rarely step on others' toes
  • allow others to be in the limelight
  • are graceful
  • don't get bored easily
  • think about the consequences of their actions
  • "have a quiet energy" (told to me by an extrovert)
  • are very real and vulnerable when they feel safe and can set the tone for that
  • are not satisfied with cursory statements and "I'm fine's." They gently probe or nudge to go deeper
  • notice quieter, peaceful things and help extroverts to see them (or maybe this is just healed SS)
  • despite perhaps an awkward first impression, can really help include others and help them feel OK
  • are very loyal to those they love and care for
  • help keep extroverts from burnout. :)

  • see others and their contributions, because they are sitting back more and watching
  • really admire bubbly, outgoing people! (at least this one does) But we also naturally appreciate the quiet ones and give them a chance, the benefit of the doubt (because we understand them!)
  • have the wackiest, goofiest dry humor I know. And I am very partial to it myself. :)
  • read until the cows come home, and process a book for days. I can be on a "book high" and be digesting it/more pensive, but then after it makes me more talkative as I describe all I'm learning. It becomes more a part of me as I process with others, especially extroverts. :)
  • don't require 'babysitters' or entertainment
  • can amuse themselves almost anywhere
  • have deep inner reserves and resources
  • understand other introverts and respect their space
  • are sensitive to other peoples' moods
