It has been a time of profound inner work for me. The end of June and then July is always like this every year. This year, I can barely catch up to the pace. But I love having the skills and the steadiness to do it. Bless the food for that. I also have moved into writing mode big time. This always brings me close to my heart self. Now it is simply making the time.

The Addiction Amoeba (2 weeks) - a specialized class to learn how other addictions are connected to sugar- and white-things- addiction. We have extended the sign up time a week for this to allow those of you who want to come in to catch up.

Radiant Step 1 (2 weeks)is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.

Radiant Step 5 (2 weeks) is one of our favorites. Learn the art of whole grains. Get lots of information that you won't find anywhere else. I picked the brains of one of the world's leading *brown* experts for this class. And remember you can enjoy learning about browns any time...you don't have to wait until you are on step 5.

Radiant Step 2: Skillful Use (2 weeks)is the next level of journaling. This is for those of you who know *how* and want to learn what to do with your data. This class shows you how to interpret what you have written in an exciting and pragmatic way.

Hi All, I've been doing all 4 parts of breakfast for 21 days.. and something happened this morning. I woke up and felt.. hmmm I don't even know how to put it into words.. maybe 'normal'? Like no headache or fog or something being not quite right.. just 'normal'! It felt gooood :)

What I've noticed after 21 days...

  1. My body likes to be fed at the same time each morning, regardless of whether it's a weekday or weekend. It seems to be creating some sort of stability and my body is learning to trust me and trust that I'm going to feed her.

  2. I don't feel as scared anymore about starting to feel hungry again when it's time for my next meal after breakfast, because I sort of know when it's going to happen and I can plan to have my next meal ready rather than 'telling' my body that it has to wait and it freaking out.

  3. I am free from food obsession after breakfast for about 4-5 hours (miracle in itself).

  4. My breakfast held me for 5 hours today! And it's the same breakfast I've been having for 21 days but it held me for only 3 hours a few weeks ago.

  5. I'm becoming more rational about doing each step slowly and really learning what I need to learn before moving on.

  6. I'm looking forward to starting my journal so I can learn more!

Every so often I have a look at Potatoes not Prozac on Amazon UK, just to see how well it is doing in the overall book rankings.

Last week it had climbed to number 4 in the depression book section! Not only that, it was at number 23 in the medical sciences section and 39 in weight loss. Number 39 in weight loss is absolutely phenomenal - that's such a large section LOL!

And - wait for it - it was at number 1,927 overall in the entire book section - there must be hundreds of thousands of books sold on the website - big yay!! Word is definitely getting out!

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **


My therapist gave me a book to read, The Anxiety And Phobia Workbook by Edmund Bourne. It had one or two chapters about how nutrition affects moods, and some book recommendations. I went to check one of them, Sugar Blues, to Amazon uk, and saw PNP in the recommendations there. I almost always check the recommendations also, especially read the reviews. So I ended up ordering both Sugar Blues and PNP. This was some time before last Christmas. Then on Christmas holiday I read PNP, and of course it was like "BANG"! We got home from the holiday trip, and I came to check the forums, and joined step 1 list. LOL I still haven't read the Sugar Blues book!

Sometimes it amazes me how many "random" things needed to happen so that I found this place. Sometimes it scares me. It was assertiveness that I was supposed to check in the anxiety book. The therapist had given me some copied pages earlier, but I wanted more, it wasn't all there was about assertiveness in that book. What if he had copied the rest of that part, and hadn't been lazy and told me to take the whole book? What if I hadn't just wanted to devour the rest of the book? What if I hadn't checked the Sugar Blues book? What if I hadn't seen the PNP recommendation? I'm so happy happy happy that I did all those things that led me here, this is a good place to be.

** Radiant Kitchen **


CHICKEN FINGERS


  • 1/2 cup whole grain bread crumbs (toast and process to crumbs bread of your choice)**
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 12 ounces boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into 1? x 3? strips
  • 1 egg lightly beaten or 2 Tbsp. milk
Preheat oven to 400°F.

Mix crumbs, salt and pepper in bowl. Dip the chicken pieces first in either milk or egg and then dip them in the breadcrumbs to coat. Place chicken on an ungreased cookie sheet (or place on parchment paper for easier cleanup).

Bake 7-9 minutes until cooked through, but not overcooked.

These freeze very well so you can make larger batches and freeze packages of them for later.

**Variation (Substitute for breadcrumbs):

1/3 cup cornflake crumbs
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

**The Power of Shame in our Healing **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.



In one of our chats, I talked about the power of shame. I thought it would be fun to share a little of that with all of you again. I asked folks to think about the thing they were more ashamed of in their lives. Then I asked how that image made them feel. Almost everyone described feeling sick to her stomach. This is a big clue. A VERY big clue. If you have something that makes you feel sick to think of, it is a crucial part of your life. You spend a lot of energy to stay away from those feelings. Make a list of the things that are sitting there eating away at you.

These things can be your debt, your unpaid bills, your credit report, the people you hurt, the affair you had, the things you took, being fat, bingeing, purging, compulsive sex, the way you hide food and eat it in the car so no one knows, computer porn, gambling and a thousand other things. Think of the points of shame as little black holes that suck your energy. And dealing with them seems impossible. They are too big, too bad, too horrible, horrible to even look at, let alone heal.

Shame is about hiding. And when you hide, the energy flows into the black hole so you procrastinate. You put the bills in the drawer. You say I will start a diet on Monday or my birthday or the first of the year. You hide the feelings of your inadequacy. You never, ever tell the depth of the repulsion and disgust about how you look. You literally *suck it up* which means you pour your energy down into the black hole.

Now there is a reason for this. Mostly you are around people who add to the shame. You KNOW that they will think badly of you. If you ever really knew....and you find the people or the institutions who reinforce that message so by the time you are grown ups, you are pretty well entrenched with the hiding.

However, here is the irony. Whatever you think is the worst is usually the most shared. Think about the relief you felt when you connected with the community and discovered thousands of people who hid the candy wrappers under the top pile of the trash or who threw the empty vodka bottle on someone else’s lawn. We are able to talk about the shame of being fat or being out of control with the food. But we still hide the other stuff.

However, it really is no different, comes from the same place. But old patterns get etched in. And they stay to reinforce your belief that at core you really are a bad person. You aren’t really a bad person at all, you may have some grimy stuff to clean out. But it is no different than a grimy barn. It just feels that way.

SHAME=HIDING
HIDING=PROCRASTINATION
PROCRASTINATION=SHAME

It is a circle that goes round and round. And there is a way out.

ACCEPTANCE = DISCLOSURE
DISCLOSURE = MOBILIZATION
MOBILIZATION = ACTION

When we talked about this in chat, several people wondered about how to know what appropriate disclosure might be. Part of being sugar sensitive is either never telling or telling way too much. As you do the food, you begin to share little bits in the right place. You share in places where you will not be judged or put down. You share with people who understand and do not reinforce your shame patterns.

As you do this, something incredible happens. The energy that has been going into the black hole comes streaming into your life. Everything is different. And then the lightness you feel goes into the other places. Click, click, click one at a time, the places of shame can be healed.

It may take a while to get the power of this. But once you do, nothing is the same.
