November 8, 2010 Hi {!firstname_fix}
Radiant Step 1 (2 weeks) is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start. Someone asked on the list if it was worth it (smile)...the answer is *yes,* the class helps you sort out what to do and how to do it. Radiant Step 6 (2 weeks) is a class for those of you getting ready to detox or having detoxed and wondering why it is so hard after. We talk about *the flat*. This class will integrate all the new material I developed for last May's ranch. I am actually pretty excited about it. There will be no classes beginning Wednesday, November 17, 2010. And this class will begin December 1, 2010. Radiant Play (2 weeks) - the material that came out of our discussions about the amygdala in chat. I learned that play has a huge impact on our ability to handle emotional change, and to make sense of the world. It was mind boggling to me. We will be talking about the neurochemistry of play. Why it is especially important for ss people and why even more so for those of us who have committed to recovery. This class is not about the psychology of play. It is about the the neurochemistry of it and why it is so crucial for us. So come take it for you, or if you are a parent or grandparent, for your children. You know I get excited when I design a new class. The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned. Please wait to sign up for classes until a week or two before, and do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled. A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum. Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly. Warmly, Kathleen **********************************************************************
** Quote From Kathleen ** Recovery is about commitment. It is that simple. If you want what we have, learn what we do and then do it. **********************************************************************
** Testimonial of the Week ** Even though Halloween is over, I love what Angela wrote. I am so filled up today, I wanted to share with you all. I put a lot of intention into transforming Halloween this year. I wanted it to be joyful, abundant and fun. During the day, we hosted a Halloween costume party for a big group of kids and parents in the homeschooling community we are new to. Being an introvert, this was stepping outside my comfort zone, but I kept my focus on fun, and steered clear of getting crazy or stressed about it. The party was a total delight. We played silly games like pin the nose on the pumpkin and goofy relay races, and the party was filled with everyone laughing together. I made snacks of hardboiled egg eyeballs, monster mouths (apples cut like a mouth and sliced almonds as teeth), cheese cubes with cute Halloween food picks, swamp punch (green juice and fizzy water), swamp scum dip (guac with plastic flies on it) and program GF peanut butter cookies with spider imprints. One of the things that totally made my day was a 12 year old asking me for my PB cookie recipe :-) I dressed up as Medusa by putting rubber snakes in my hair, and had so much fun being in costume. And I think my kids enjoyed me being in costume as much as they enjoyed their own costumes. I remembered how joyful it is to get together with a big group of people and simply playing together. I received so many heart-felt thanks from other parents for providing such a fun time for their kids, it just filled me up. After the party we sat down and had roast, potatoes and sweet potatoes that had been simmering in the crockpot all through the party. I was sooo happy for that crockpot and the good food at the ready. After dinner the kids and I went trick or treating with friends. Once again I was just astounded at how the program holds us. The neighborhood was totally packed with kids, and it was pretty crazy. But I connected with my kids about how to keep this fun and safe for all of us, and throughout our time they stayed respectful and conscientious. Totally wonderful! Then we headed home for *the exchange*. At home we weighed their loot, and did an exchange for cash, the more it weighed the more money they got. (my kids got 6 lbs of candy collectively, and we only went for a short time, whew...) With money in hand we out shopping and they each picked out what they wanted. They had a lot of fun wandering the aisles getting to choose the just right game or toy. Then home and to bed. What a day! But, my kids, and my husband and I were just delighted, the radiance of the day felt palpable. What a joyful memory we will all have of this Halloween. Radiance is so transformative! ** Radiant Ambassadors ** Ok, hands up, who's heard of FlyLady.net? Excellent! Then you may well be familiar with Leanne Ely who is their resident food columnist and blogger. One of our Ambassadors discovered the following article written by Ely about sugar addiction and her steps for getting off sugar: http://savingdinner.com/articles/hf-sugar-addiction/ Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could get as many people as possible to respond with comments about healing sugar sensitivity the Radiant Recovery way? If you fancy joining in the fun, why not wander over to the blog and leave a comment about Radiant Recovery, Potatoes not Prozac, Sugar Addicts Total Recovery Program, Little Sugar Addicts, etc.? I have already added my comment along with a few other lovely people. Who wants to join us? Selena Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************
** How I Found Radiant Recovery ** My name is Jill and I am in CA. I just recently learned about this program from one of the celiac lists that I subscribe to. So, I am new to the program and officially on step 1. However, I have been working on many of the same ideas in PNP independent of this program for years. For example, I have been moving from "white" to "brown" over the past several years. I always have breakfast with protein (although not as much as this program recommends) everyday, and I have been working with a Naturalpath for the past three years who has me on a vitamin regimen similar to this program. Due to a history of Type 2 diabetes in the family, I have also been making a conscious decision to cut back and eliminate the sugars as much as possible -- especially fructose not from fruit. What attracted me to this program is that it pulls together so many of these ideas that I have been working toward in a single structured program that has worked for many people. And, it adds some new ideas like the Beta Endorphin balance of which I was not aware. I am looking forward to learning more about this community and seeing how it can help me on my path to a radiant future. **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. Here is a great addition to the store. One of our members was looking at alternative uses for the Cetyl M product we carry. She discovered that the company has come out with a topical cream and asked if we would carry. I was on it and ordered some that day. Let me know what you think!
Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************

** Radiant Kitchen ** Pumpkin Pecan Pie Thanksgiving is coming in the US. There are some wonderful recipes on the Thanksgiving page. Probably my all-time favorite is the pecan pumpkin pie. We leave out the pecans due to nut allergies. I now have to make two of these pies because even those not on program love it and one year my daughter almost didn’t get her slice!

Combine all ingredients. Makes 1 1/2 cup mix. For more great program-friendly recipes, check out our cookbook in the store. **********************************************************************
** Radiant Conversations ** We started the study list after chat last week. It is simply awesome. Give a bunch of thoughtful introverts some time and space, and then stand back and listen. The reflections you are doing are so much fun! I love seeing how the topic of silence and listening is deepening. It feels like the maturity of the program is streaming. Thank you!! If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you want to be a part of the latest and greatest or just have some plain ol' fun! **********************************************************************
** Our Online Groups ** The Movement list is for people who want to start moving again and to baby step into a regular exercise program. If you can remember how much fun it was to move when you were a child and you've lost that, the Movement list is the perfect place for you. And, if you don't remember, we'll help you rediscover it. There are some wonderful people on the list who will share their stories and help you explore different options to form a movement plan that works for you.. We are enthusiastic about our own exercise, but we also understand first hand how hard it was to start and to baby step into regular movement. It's a great list; come join us. **********************************************************************
**Grandmother Heart ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
OK, I am going to write to you from my grandmother heart. This is a big deal for me. I have been writing about my years as a young mother for the past few weeks - my daughter asked me for the details and I have been having fun doing this task. I have learned some things I did not know then. My kids did not care about a perfect house or a perfect mom. What they cared about was time and being present. That is what they remember. They did not care about my career, about my being in school and what I was learning, they didn't care about their grades or excelling. They cared about time and being present.....
Here is what made the difference, I think. I intuitively knew that *I* had to have some quiet time to be sane. They watched Sesame Street every day at 5PM and did not talk to me. I regrouped and caught my breath. I had time alone at regular intervals. I did things that filled me up. And deep inside, I would reach down in my heart and meet them at where they were...and I was clear about boundaries. This is what I instinctively knew at 30. Now, from this perspective, I know something more. If you have an eight year old, this is the ONLY winter, the only season you will EVER have with an eight year old. You know all that other stuff you think is so important? It isn't. If there are too many after school activities, stop them. If there are too many demands, start learning *no,thank you.* If you don't know how, ask us. If you are a grandparent, ask how you can support your children at this time of year. Provide space, fun and humor. Go get those kids and be goofy. If you live far away, get on the phone and be goofy on the phone. Email them. Give them cameras for Christmas and ask them to email you pictures of their lives. Send them pictures of your dog, your cat, your friends at the senior center. Wait, I don't think any of us go to senior centers, LOL. Teach them to knit - even the boys. It raises serotonin. Make a cookbook for them. Guess you can tell what I have been thinking about this week. I am making a book about my life. I am writing, writing and then will find photos and put them with the writing...this is a wonderful and powerful thing to do. Mostly, I am committed to this being a holy and reflective time.
