May 3, 2010 Hi {!firstname_fix} I have been spending time getting the things all set for Ranch. I think we are all getting really excited. I am not sure why it feels so different this year. I know I am excited about the material I am presenting. I am getting it all set to go. I love having it come together so cleanly. I met with the hotel people and got the details all squared away and have been working with all the mentors who are coming to make sure everything flows smoothly. We were laughing at the details we provide to attendees. We do still have some slots left on the off chance you want to come on down to NM for ranch. This class will begin Wednesday, May 5, 2010. ** Quote From Kathleen ** Your journal gives you a picture of 'before.' As you continue the program, you will enjoy being able to look back at your journal and see how far you have come. **********************************************************************
** Testimonial of the Week ** My how time flies . . . I have posted 59 days in a row. Doesn't seem possible. I have decided I will post tomorrow, as well, to make a round 60. So, I have met my commitment here and feel it is time to use my wings to fly on further. The foundation here has been so important, and you never know when I might stick my head back in to say hi and post a breakfast. In any event, I wish all you step "1"ers a good journey through this step. Today's breakfast was: A shake made with . . .
Now that I have my step one wings, I am on my way to make another commitment on the step 2 list. Blessings to all, Dayahna **********************************************************************
** Radiant Ambassadors ** Do you enjoy public speaking? Or are you like me and try to avoid it whenever the occasion arises LOL? Well, that was the recent topic of conversation on the ambassadors list. Kath shared this with us about her experiences: I was floored after a recent talk that I gave (about nutrition "Eating well on a budget"), to have someone come up afterwards and compliment me on my excellent public speaking. I found myself wanting to look behind me to see who they were addressing, because I just gave a talk! How exciting is that! Selena Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************
** How I Found Radiant Recovery ** A friend on the FlyLady UK forum mentioned the RR website to me. I checked it out, cried buckets and my then boyfriend went out and bought me Potatoes not Prozac the next day. That was 6 years ago - and it's been totally life changing! ** Radiant Kitchen ** What great observations! Your query is familiar to me, sure. Some browns just hold me differently than others and I've been so thankful for my journal to help me discover that they just aren't all created equal.. and which ones work best for me and so then I just lean towards the ones that do. Potatoes and corn are faster browns than some other with the starches burning faster/warmer than most grains- so there may be some clues there. The wholer the grain, the longer they take to digest and process which means staying satisfied longer. I'll use the example of oats where I have the most experience with them while this can be applied pretty universally with other grains, etc. I will list the various forms starting with the wholest which stay with me so much longer, to the finest which feel more like a wisp.
So then we have say corn.
Or rice..
Another bit about potatoes, where it is the skin that makes it a brown- so the higher skin to flesh ratio, the slower/faster of a brown it will be. A serving of roasted tiny whole baby potatoes works way better for me than say home fries where a big potato is cut into small pieces (less skin). A dish like succotash, or beans/brown rice salad are really dense and so big winners in my book. I'm wondering if this info supports your findings that some of your browns that are more comfortable for your body don't hold you as well in terms of hunger? I would love to hear what your findings are as you experiment! HTH's, and have fun playing! ** Your Last Diet - More Than What You Think ** Well, at our last chats we talked about the idea of 10:10, a new approach to radiant movement. The idea is to simply walk for 10 minutes. You can even stroll. Then you turn around and walk back to where you started. It seems very easy. We all got really excited. We will be talking about this on the movement list. It is the beginning of looking at some pretty interesting concepts about what kind of movement enhances weight loss. I love YLD, we keep discovering new things. Here is what Mosaic wrote to the forum: So after Wednesday's chat I got excited about 10/10. The idea that gentle movement incorporated into everyday life is a very good thing for us.And remember, you do not need to lose weight to come join us. Chats are designed to be the cutting edge of our community thinking. If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just have some plain ol' fun! **********************************************************************

I have been doing a glossary for ranch and thought it would be fun to share this. Please come over to the forum to add anything else you can think of. I loved doing this. Radiant Recovery Glossary 10.10: Code for starting a movement plan by walking 10 minutes out the door and 10 minutes back. 90/90: Code for attending 90 AA meetings in 90 days. We also use it to refer to posting on the community forum or an online list once a day for 90 days. BRB: Be right back. Browns: Short for complex carbohydrates. Chat: Refers to the weekly online discussion held with Kathleen. This is part of the online YLD program. COB: Abbreviation for cream of buckwheat. DD, DH, etc :Terms used on the internet to refer to members of one’s family such as dear husband, darling daughter, etc. Do the Food: Shorthand and code for committing to the steps, doing them, enjoying them and moving into a different life. Drug Talk: Conversation that includes specifics of sugar use, or acting out addictive behaviors. ED: Abbreviation for Eating Disorder. FOF: Abbreviation for Focus on the Food…code for working the steps rather than fretting about everything else. Forgetting: We use this term instead of “relapse.” Forum: Refers to the community forum where folks connect with one another. HTH: Hope that helps. IMHO: In my humble opinion. LOL: Laughing out loud. LSA: Abbreviation for Little Sugar Addicts, the book for parents who are dealing with sugar sensitive children. Mentors: The volunteers who have been doing the program, are on step seven and have committed to helping others discover the power of recovery. Nanosteps : Refers to tiny steps taken to master one of the 7 steps. Newbies: Short for beginners in the program. NMI: Refers to a post that has the message in the subject line and has no contents. PnP: Abbreviation for Potatoes Not Prozac, the book that started the process. It is the main source of information about sugar sensitivity and the 7 steps to healing. RARA: Abbreviation for the meetings of people in the Radiant Recovery Program who are also in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Reframe: A way of shifting language to see something negative in a more positive light. For example, I get to do the program rather than I have to do the program. Remembering: Waking up from addiction. Sugar use makes us forget. Remembering happens when we come back and start over. ROOFTOP : We use this to express really, really laughing. When Kathleen had typed ROTFLMAO (rolling on the floor laughing my a** off) and her spell checker changed it to ROOFTOP. RR: Radiant Recovery. SARP: Abbreviation for The Sugar Addict’s Total Recovery Program, a how-to manual for doing the 7 steps. SHC: Abbreviation for stupid hot cereal…a comment made about having to eat it for breakfast. We reframed it into getting to eat it. Stacking: Refers to an accumulation of events or different types of food. Stacking browns in a meal would mean having brown rice and another grain. Stacking events might mean many different stressful events in a week. Each one might be small, but when added together, they have a big impact. Sugar Feelings: a tender description of the heightened emotional reactions that emerge while we are using sugar. The content is true but the enormity is heightened and distorted by sugar use. Within an Hour: Refers to having breakfast within an hour of getting up. YBS: Abbreviation for Your Body Speaks, the journal designed by Kathleen DesMaisons. YLD: Abbreviation for Your Last Diet!, the book on weight loss for sugar sensitive people. It is also the abbreviation for the online support program for weight loss.
