Hi {!firstname_fix}

Balloon fiesta time in New Mexico. The sky has been filled with balloons all week. It is our favorite week of the year, except maybe for Christmas. I love this time of year. The sky is blue, blue, the cottonwoods are starting to turn yellow, the air is crisp and the farmer's market has local yummy apples.
We want to announce that we have made a few changes in our leadership. Fiona who is from Scotland will be taking the Step 7 list, Emily from Northern California will be doing the Big Ones list, Milly is moving to YLD and Gaynor who is in central England will be taking Brits. We have put a special training process in place so the new people come on as Junior liaisons and the original person stays on to help train and transition. But I think you will be excited to see new faces.

This class will begin Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

New Tools for a Dynamic Program (A.K.A Revitalizing Your Program (2 weeks) will present the most ground-breaking innovation we have had in 5 years. Just start your program and energize it in a way you cannot imagine. It does not matter if you are brand new on step 1 or a long timer on step 7, the tools are fabulous. I guarantee you this class will excite you and set your program on fire. I am saying it is two weeks, but it may be more since I honestly don't yet quite know how long it will take to cover the material. If you are wondering whether to take it, ask someone who was at Euroranch for her opinion.

These classes will begin Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Radiant Step 1 (1 week) is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.

Radiant Store Tour (1week) is a free guided tour of the store. David will be leading this class so if you want to get to know the guy that makes it all work, come sign up and show your support for the work he does to keep you happy.

If you are on disability or low income (your household income is less that $1000 a month), you may take classes for free if you get certified. I have put the guidelines for certification on the class schedule page.

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial of the Week **

Woohoo!!

I have been so anxious to get the results back from the blood screening at the health fair my hospital puts on every fall. They came today. I couldn't imagine that they would not have improved since I have been on the program since February and have been detoxed from sugar for a couple of months now.

Get this--my cholesterol dropped 22 points!! I cut my triglyceride value in HALF, my HDL's (the good guys) went up by almost 25%, and my LDL's (the bad guys) went DOWN by more than 25%. I can hardly believe how great this is!

So, everybody, know without a doubt that even if you can't see any improvement on the outside, i.e., weight loss, you are most definitely helping yourself immensely on the inside. Yippee!

Hugs,
MaggieB

** Radiant Ambassadors **

Well, Halloween is fast approaching! The Radiant Recovery Halloween Press Release went out last week.

How exciting would it be to read about radiant alternatives to the annual candy fest in your local newspaper?

Would you like to get involved? Do we have any volunteers to let us know details of your regional newspaper for next year's Press Release? Feel free to join the Ambassadors list or post the details on the Forum.

Just imagine what it would be like if the whole of the US decided to do something different next year!

Here is one of my favorite recipes....

Breaded Chicken Cutlets
  • Get some chicken cutlets. Pound them so they are really thin.
  • Beat some eggs. The number will depend on how many cutlets you are making. I use 2 eggs for 4 cutlets.
  • Heat a skillet with olive oil in it.
  • Dry the cutlets, then dip in the egg mixture.
  • Then roll the cutlets in almond meal.
  • When the olive oil is hot, put the breaded cutlets in until crispy on both sides.
You can use them in anything.

If you have left over almond meal and eggs, just mix them together and make some little pancakes in the skillet.

I know this is a very imprecise recipe. But I make it all the time and it is ALWAYS delicious. It is ideal for all you folks who are doing wheat- and gluten-free food.

** Your Last Diet - More Than What You Think **

Well, if you read last week's chats, you had a preview of some of the changes we are making. We will be revising the structure of YLD some to make it far more focused on weight loss. Currently, as you know, the chats talk about way more than weight loss. This is exciting and fun, but some of you have expressed wanting more emphasis on why you joined. We will be making the main YLD list far more attentive to those needs. Chats will be geared to the whole community - innovation, new research, key questions and things like that. You can read about that focus down in the article below.

YLD members will work together on the main list and in the WLIA [weight loss in action] list and will still be able to participate in the special members-only classes.

We have a new YLD liaison, Milly, who is very excited and is putting together a team of people who have successfully lost weight using YLD. So you will be able to talk to great role models. We are all VERY excited about these changes and I know you will be too!!!

If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just have some plain ol' fun!

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Let's take a look at all our oils. These are especially good for winter....

We have two liquids - great for putting in your shake..
Cod Liver Oil, which is a wonderful all-around option for getting fatty acids. It has a nice flavor and makes the shake taste creamy.
Pro Omega D is a wonderful option for those of you who are concerned about low levels of vitamin D. The more we are learning about this, the more we are hearing that most of us do not have optimum levels. We started carrying this as a good alternative for you.
ProEpa is our core standby. This is one of our favorite products. It is easy to take, has no fish taste and digest easily.
ProDHA is for those of you who are pregnant, nursing or planning to. It grows baby brains really well.
ProEPA Elite is a more concentrated formula for people who are looking to take therapeutic doses of omega 3s. Read Kathleen's article to see if you have a condition that would be well served by this product.
Next week, I will do the childrens' products. Remember, I can add any of these to your subscription. And our subscribers are the VIPs of the store..

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

** Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Transitions list a place to discuss something that many of us are dealing with, which is helping our aging parents to make a transition from their active, independent lives to something different. It can be experienced in different ways. There may be parents who are proactive and search for and find a retirement community that would be a safe place for them that also offered assisted living and nursing home care as needed. On the other side of the coin, there may be those who have dementia that progresses to the point that it was no longer safe for them to live alone.

This list will be for those of you who are dealing with this situation now. We want the list to feel very safe, so you will have to apply to join it. All members of the list will be expected to participate. No lurkers, please.

Or come to the group page to find the one that will best support your program: http://www.radiantrecovery.com/list_serves.htm

**Catching Up **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

This week's article will be more of an overall community update than a specific article. I would like to announce a couple of changes that are happening or are planned.

1. As I said in my first little introduction, we have asked a few new people if they would like to join us in serving the community. They will be having training over the next few weeks and stepping into new roles. So you can welcome them with me. Here is a nice little discussion of our values. It might be a good time to reread them. I always give thanks for the generosity and kindness of the volunteers who make this community possible.

2. As I have said in the YLD section, we are designing some changes with YLD and Chat. We have been talking for quite some time about how to resolve the way chat has emerged and the needs of the people who join YLD. We have people who want to be really focused and weight loss and we have people who are very interested in being on the cutting edge of what we are thinking and exploring. Chat has evolved into a lively place for conversations about vision, connection, and refining the program in creative and exciting ways. The scope of chat is way bigger than simply weight loss.

In order to reconcile this, we will be doing two things:

A. We will be making YLD way more focused for weight loss. This will be the place you can talk about what to do if you are gaining weight, how to work the steps with an eye for your weight loss process, how to challenge the myths of obesity, how to deal with the emotional reality of being overweight, and all the little complexities that come with this challenge. We have a new liaison with a lot of energy for these questions. She is building a vital team of people who have lost weight, are excited, skilled and enthusiastic. This dynamic process will happen on the YLD list and in the YLD members-only classes.

B. We are setting up a new membership program for those who want to be a part of the Radiant Dialogue at chat. These folks will come in for the information and the exploration. They will have a special list that will look at the topics raised in chat more in depth.

Logically, it means that if you sign up for a Radiant Membership, you may be involved in either or both of the programs. All current YLD members will be able to join the Radiant Dialogue list, and people who join Radiant Dialogue may participate in YLD if they choose to.

So really, you are getting more for your money. We have the basics of the Radiant Dialogue material set for you over the next week or so. Look for it on the online groups list.

3. A number of you have asked me about how consults work and when you should use them. I thought it might be helpful to go through the kinds of things I do:

A. If you feel confused about how to get started because you have a special set of circumstances that affect your ability to do the program.

B. If you feel stuck and baffled about why you are not progressing the way you would like to.

C. If you are dealing with a lot of prescription drugs and are not sure how to sort them out while you are doing the food. A consult can help you know how to speak with your doctor more clearly.

D. If you don't feel well and honestly can't sort out what might be going on.

E. If you simply would like to have expert, confidential feedback on your situation.

I am aware that in the past we have had a few glitches with our scheduling. We now have a new assistant in the office who will be handling setting up the appointment. He is very detailed and will make sure everything stays on track.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I am excited about all these changes.
