** Testimonial of the Week ** Hi everyone - I've had a VERY emotional week (lots of family issues), but my food has remained steady. I consider this a miracle of this program. I had an "aha" this week that I wanted to share. My lunch was an hour late one day this week (I got on a conference call that didn't end!). Of course I was STARVING by the time I got to eat. So I ate my normal lunch and I was full. But then I wanted to keep on eating and munching. This was common in the past and this time I made the connection between lunch being late and wanting to munch. It was a big "aha" moment for me - that when my timing is off it can trigger cravings - and I've always wondered why that happened. Now I know! I've been listening to one of Kathleen's CDs and all kinds of light bulbs are going off for me. The one I loved was "doing the food will heal your brain chemistry, but doing the process is what heals the addiction." WOW. I'm still pondering that - I do feel like my brain chemistry is healing, but lately I'm starting to get some real relief from my addictive thoughts. The thought to binge still floats through occasionally, but most of the time it just keeps on going and doesn't stay. I believe that is a function of my healing. I'm really feeling FAT this week. My stomach feels huge and bloaty. I just need to say that - I'm not doing anything radical about it, I'm just noticing the feeling. OK, that's not true. I'm thinking about "cutting back." But what I really want to do is pay attention to whether I'm really hungry or just wanting to munch. So often after a meal I feel uncomfortably stuffed. I would like to try and figure out if there's a way I can avoid that feeling without starving myself. I'll let you know how it goes! Take care, Dawn **********************************************************************
** Radiant Ambassadors ** Every so often we check how well Potatoes Not Prozac is performing in the Amazon bestsellers list. I check out the UK site and Kat has a look at the US site. Last week, Potatoes Not Prozac was ranked number 1,808 in the UK. There are hundreds of thousands of books available so this was really encouraging. The book charts are also split into different categories and in the depression book section, Potatoes Not Prozac was ranked at number one! This is fantastic news!! I think word might be spreading after all! Selena Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************

** Your Last Diet - More Than What You Think ** This sounds like something that happened to me when we went to visit my mother-in-law after I’d been on the program for 7 months. I was radiant enough to make the trip, and I was anxious about what her reaction to my weight would be, since I was at least 20 pounds heavier than the last time she’d seen me. She has always been very health- and weight-conscious, so I expected to get a lecture. I was prepared to say, “I’m working with an addictive nutritionist to heal myself.” To my total amazement, she didn’t see my weight gain. She even tried to give me the extra clothes in her closet that were at least 3 sizes too small for me! I had to hold them up to my body to show her that they wouldn’t fit! (“Are you sure?” “Yes, I am sure. But thank you so much for offering them to me.”) She never had a problem with her vision before! I posted this on the list, pondering what it all means. And the best I can come up with is that when we lose weight, or better yet, when we are filled with radiance, the energy pouring out of us is the same. We carry ourselves differently. We smile more. We feel good about ourselves and everyone around us. This makes a real physical difference in our appearance that people can’t quite put their fingers on, so they think we’ve lost weight! Since we tend to feel dishonest when we get a compliment on something we haven’t done, what if we just reframe “Have you lost weight?” into “Wow, you look great!” and just say “Thank you” without explanation and appreciating the compliment. If they say, “What are you doing?” you can reply, “Radiant Recovery” and see if they want to know more. Enjoy the compliments! You do deserve them! Lora If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. There are some wonderful people on the list who will share their stories and help you explore different options to form a movement plan that works for you.. We are enthusiastic about our own exercise, but we also understand first hand how hard it was to start and to baby step into regular movement. It's a great list; come join us. **********************************************************************
** Thinking About Weight Loss Differently ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
I have read three or four emails this week from people who are really, really upset that they started the program and gained a few pounds. They KNOW they have to lose weight NOW and the program, the program is failing them. Now, of course, I know perfectly well, that it is not the *program* or breakfast. It is simply that having breakfast calls the question of what is happening the rest of the day. Most of us managed our out-of-control sugar stuff by skipping breakfast. We basically starved for half the day. So if you add in breakfast, it does add to the food for the day. But it intrigues me that the addictive brain immediately goes to the *program* as the problem rather than the addiction. But the whole issue got me thinking. There are a lot of us who did the program in a week or a day. All the steps at once...and it was ok. I was wondering if maybe we should open up the idea of a *fast track* for YLD. I actually just thought I would put this out for you all to reflect on. What if we said, you want to do it all now? You would rather just do it and deal with it, even if it is really, really hard? Then I wondered, "Would people be able to hold the idea of this kind of contradiction to everything I have been saying for the last 10 years.?" And on the other hand, I wondered if people in fact, might understand the art of flexible regrouping as we mature. Maybe it is possible now...maybe the fact that we have all this support and all this information would mean that someone who is motivated can in fact just do it...and...go and lose weight and be a happy camper. Or maybe it is totally nuts. But what I am thinking most is that is we offer this option, and we offer it with a disclaimer that we honestly are not sure if this is the best way to go, we allow YOU to explore and discover. We allow you to try it out, see how it is, see how you feel. We allow you to guide us in discerning if we need to change our position on the best way to go. So what I am going to do is design a YLD Fast Track program. If ya wants it, I will give you the best shot at it. It will include specific instructions, a timetable and guidance on what to do when. Maybe if you want to do all the steps in a day, a month or 6 months. How to decide, how to know your style, how to understand what is most important. So this article is a test balloon. Like the dawn patrol that goes up at balloon fiesta before the sun is up. They go and check the wind. Come over to the forum and tell me what you think of the idea.
