** Quote From Kathleen ** When you eat according to your food plan, you will have a solid sense of self-esteem that comes from biochemical balance, clarity and well-being. **********************************************************************
** Testimonial of the Week ** Ladies, This got a lot better for me when the I finally stopped gaining, which was late in step 3 once I stabilized. I am now on step 6 and while I haven't stepped on a scale in many months, my clothes still fit, so I know I'm not gaining. Yes, it can be hard, but you've got the right idea about just focusing on healing. That's what I've been doing and my diethead is gone completely. It was a measurable kick-back from doing the food, and I felt the Obesity Myth class was also very helpful to my healing in the Fret-and-Freak-out-About-Weight Department. This is about something so much bigger (no pun intended LOL) than our weight. Our weight is so, so unimportant compared to what is happening here. Most people report losing weight rather naturally and easily once they get through the steps. I am not there yet, but am completely content until I arrive at that checkpoint. Stay the course, my fellow radiant friends. You're going the right way! Kat **********************************************************************
** Radiant Ambassadors ** Do you use Facebook or any of the other social networking sites? Did you know that there is now a Radiant Recovery group on Facebook? Well, you do now! A few of us on the Ambassadors list have been using it to include messages about Radiant Recovery. Kat told us this week that she has put "Ask me about sugar sensitivity" on her Facebook page. What a fantastic idea! I've just updated mine to say "Ask me about the chocolate chip cookie test". I've also added an application which keeps a list of your favourite books. You won't be surprised to hear that Potatoes not Prozac ranks very highly on my page! If you want to find out more and join in the fun, come on over to the Ambassador's list! Selena Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************
** Radiant Kitchen ** Easy Egg and Oat One-Pan BreakfastHere is a breakfast recipe (for one) that is quick and tastes great! Some folks like it with plain yogurt on top. This is another one of those that we all "play" with to add, subtract and change to suit our tastes.Ingredients:
Beat the eggs, stir in milk or yogurt. Add oats, apple, nutmeg and cinnamon. Cook like a pancake or scramble in oiled skillet. This is one of Kathleen's personal recipes

** Your Last Diet - More Than What You Think ** This week at chat we were talking about the idea of *stacking*. It made me realize that it would be a good idea to write about that for the newsletter. Then I was thinking about how much your input from chat shapes how the program goes. If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just have some plain ol' fun! **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. So I have some good news for you. We are rolling back the price of George's® Shake. The new price is now $44.95 instead of $50.00 and an astounding $39.95 for a subscription. We developed this new pricing as a way to cope with the latest increase in shipping pricing from the Postal Service. By taking the shipping out of our price, we give you a lot more latitude in saving money. Now we simply charge for shake and then work with you to get you the best shipping prices. I have called all our subscribers and have been able to cut the shipping costs by almost half. This change in pricing also allows us to be really competitive for those of you in Europe. I am excited about coming up with a thoughtful and creative solution to a complex issue. Thanks for all your help in getting there. Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
** Our Online Groups ** Most of us underestimate the importance of breakfast and try to do all the steps in the first week. When that doesn't work, we begin again. We concentrate on Step 1, breakfast, and find our lives begin to change. The RadiantBreakfast list is a great place to learn the nuances of breakfast, build a strong foundation for the rest of the steps, and find how helpful it is to share our journey with others. It is great for new people and those who have been on the program a long time. Sharing helps everyone. The awesome thing is we all, Step 1 or Step 7, eat breakfast every single day. How cool is that? We'd love it for you to sign up. We love new members! **********************************************************************
**Holding Your Balance ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
Last week in chat we were talking about the idea of “stacking.” Stacking is the accumulation of small events to create a bigger impact. Sometimes you may feel that your food is fine, but you feel grumpy and out of sorts. And it just makes no sense. You have been trained to think “food first” so you check. Your food looks good. What is the problem? Let’s look to your life and discover some critical pieces. Your husband lost his job, or your car was broken into, or your investments tanked, or your brother died, your son moved out, you had a baby, you moved, your house burned, your mother fell and broke her hip, your best friend got diagnosed with cancer, you hit a deer on the road, or your basement flooded. And maybe more than one thing happened in a month. Life happened.
When you get bumped, it means needing to pay attention to your food in a different way. Timing needs to be tighter, you need more browns, you need denser browns. Yes, you need the potato. And yes, you need your lifeline, your journal. Your journal is your map, your set of instructions. Your food needs to be adjusted to hold your balance. You need to fit the puzzle together differently. This is where stacking becomes a positive. Just as the accumulated bumps dislodged your stability, an accumulation of adjustments can strengthen it. Positive stacking builds protection, gives you an insurance policy for unplanned for stuff. There may be more. Maybe you decided it was time to make some adjustments to your food. You were tired of being fat. You decided to cut your carbs, or eat less food, or do low fat, or felt you didn’t need snacks. You felt fine, you felt virtuous and you were on your way. And chances are, you may have made more than one of these changes at a time. You “stacked” your change to get faster results. And you did this in good faith because you felt so steady. Each change requires a readjustment in your balance. Too many changes at once, and you won’t be able to hold it. The change affects your steadiness. So if you have made food change, and then get hit with life change, you get into trouble. I understand that all of us just want to get better. We just want to know that if I do this, then it will work. But the program is a dynamic practice, not a prescription. You are creating balance. And you are starting from an unbalanced place. Doing the food puts a piece of the puzzle in with each step. Doing the food heals your brain and creates the balance. And life will bump you. The more solid the food is, the more easily you can absorb the bumps. Now here is a fun story for that idea. I was recently in Florida in St. Augustine. They have an old fort there. The walls are made from crushed shells and mortar. They are very sturdy but they give rather than shatter if hit by a cannon ball. So when the navy fleets bombarded the fort, the balls just bounced off the walls. Stacking is like putting thousands of tiny little shells together. The quality of your food creates protection. If life stress is stacking, look to your food. Make small changes that accumulate. Add strength to your food. Get a light box, go walking, play, do regular life rather than staying caught in the swirl. Ask for help - come to chats, post on the forum. I hope this makes sense. It is a new idea. We are forming it as we live it. Let me know what you think. Here are the folks who are helping put the newsletter together:
