Hi {!firstname_fix} The leaves are falling off the trees now so I can see the mountain more. I love November. It has always been my favorite time. Grey on grey, the softness feels very healing to me. I love the quieting and the turning inward. I also love Thanksgiving. Last week was a big week for a lot of folks. The election and all the feelings that came from it took a lot of energy. I decided to share some of Wednesday chat with you here. It will give you a sense of some of the things I have been feeling and thinking about. You may not agree that the outcome of the election was a good thing. But, no matter what, I think we can all agree that having an election, having a voice, voting and finding what we believe is the essence of freedom. These classes will begin Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page: Radiant Step Two (1 week) will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step by step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited. Radiant Step Five (1 week) is one of our favorites. Learn the art of whole grains. Get lots of information that you won't find anywhere else. I picked the brains of one of the world's leading *brown* experts for this class. These classes will begin Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page: Using Radiant Resources (1 week) is our fun free guided tour of the community. If you are new or returning, get on the top deck of the double decker and hear everything. If you are on disability or low income (your household income is less that $1000 a month), you may take classes for free if you get certified. I have put the guidelines for certification on the class schedule page. The class schedule is on line. Click here to see what is planned. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled. A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online and you do not have to be at your computer at any set time. It does not matter whether you are in the US, Europe, the Far East or Australia, you simply respond on your own time. And although I advertise that the classes are one or two weeks, sometimes we are a little flexible and they may run longer. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum. Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover. Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery¨ website and Community Forum regularly. Warmly, Kathleen **********************************************************************

We have recently asked Jaki (Fulhamwitch@btinternet.com) to be the liaison
for the radiant
introduction to cooking list. The list is just rocking. A couple
of people have asked me whether she is a witch. They were serious. I was sympathetic.
For a long time I wondered and was afraid o ask and find out (smile)....anyway,
she shared this explanation with us. I know you will love it. And watch the
TV clip. It will make you cry. and....come join
us on the list...it is really
fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxg4o64d-iM ********************************************************************
**Bridging**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D. We have a rule on the lists that we do not talk about politics or religion. I made this rule to keep us safe from energy that divides and splits. Last night on chat, I decided to talk about *bridging* which is a behavioral technique that helps us come down from experiences of great intensity. Tuesday was a night of great intensity. And I was moved to speak of my feelings of what we had experienced.... In the middle of this, we had a new person who was very upset. She said, not all of us feel this way. And she slammed the door and left. She wrote me later to say that I had broken my own rule and that I should have known better. I realized that I was speaking to something much bigger than Democrats and Republicans. I was speaking to the heart of what Radiant Recovery is about. A big part of this is the ability for us to speak about differences of opinion without killing one another, without walking out or slamming the door. And in fact, we have started this very process within our community leadership. Not everyone in leadership holds the same views that I do. And we have been talking and finding ways to honor different ways of looking at the world. I am going to share with you what I said last Wednesday night. And it will tell you about my values. It will reveal what has grown our vision, and has sustained this work every day, day in and day out for 10 years. If you think it is only about politics, you will miss the point. You may not agree, and that will be all right. But you will know who I am and what drives this vision here. Our chat last week was about reclaiming hope, about bringing people who have been disenfranchised back, about believing that *yes we can*...that we as a people can say no to things if they do not work. here is my sense when I looked at the faces last night ©Kathleen DesMaisons 2008.
