Hi {!firstname_fix}

Somehow our beach is a haven for driftwood. I love the shapes and sizes and I love wondering where the pieces came from. It is amazing to think of all that stuff floating in the ocean. The types of birds that come in are different too. This week the seagulls are BIG with bright white heads.

I had planned to take Ronan on an outing, but woke up to lots of wet snow. Everything is white once again. Shrove Tuesday came and a number of the Brits started talking about pancakes. Being curious, of course I had to check that out.

Doing the Program on a Budget is a free class we do for people who are working the program without a lot of financial resources. Come learn strategies and ideas that will serve you well.

Magical Introversion is a new class which has grown out of your teachings. Last year you sat with me and talked about what life is like for you. I have taken that material, added the brain component, and put together the implications for sugar sensitives. I think this class will be really fun.

The class schedule is on line. Click here to see what is planned. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online and you do not have to be at your computer at any set time. It does not matter whether you are in the US, Europe, the Far East or Australia, you simply respond on your own time. And although I advertise that the classes are one or two weeks, sometimes we are a little flexible and they may run longer.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery¨ website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

What you are trying to do is learn to notice and recrod. You do not have to sort it all out, nor make sense of the feelings.

** Testimonial for the Week**

This is what struck me most in the supplements: *We started with creating an image of possibility. Not, “Who is the thin person wanting to get out,” but who is the real person at the core of this fat one.* That is so powerful, and it's exactly what I have experienced.  I am really glad my weight loss on YLD in action has been relatively slow, at my age--it's given me the time to process some of these deeper changes.

The Oat Song
(sung to the tune of "twinkle, twinkle little star" or "baa baa black sheep" or the "abc" song, if you prefer...)

Oats are such a special treat,
Many types of oats to eat
Steel cut, Irish, oat groats, too
Rolled and instant - which prefer YOU?
There are oats for you, you'll see
Even if you're "gluten free"!

I like mine with cottage cheese.
Salt and butter, if YOU please.
You can make them overnight
Not much effort - you heard right!
Oats, egg, apples in one pan -
Can I make that? Yes, I can!

Oats are yummy in pancakes
Adding Restore ups protein intake
Put oats in your morning shake
Blend them first, that's all it takes
Or you might try baby oats
In your shake, then down your throat.

George's store has Nairn's oat cakes
More like crackers, healthy and baked
Perfect brown for on the run
Who knew oats were so much fun?
Oats: a fine whole grain to eat
More "oat talk" where breakfasteers meet!

**Radiant Kitchen**

By Naomi Muller, Step 7, author of Nutritious and Delicious Cookbook.

Green beans are one of my favorite vegetables and so you'll find this recipe in my cookbook. If you serve them like this, I bet they will be a family favorite.

Sesame Green Beans

  • 2 pounds green beans, stemmed
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook, uncovered, until crisp-tender, 3 to 4 minutes. Drain and set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients until well blended. Add the green beans and toss to combine well. Season to taste with freshly ground pepper.

The email lists are fab - I'm on several and they all have a different quality about them - I feel very safe. I think what I like so much about this community is how accepting and supportive everybody is. The rules of the road are great - very succinct.

Ah now, chats :). Wednesday night Eurochat is the highlight of my week. There's something almost tangible about chatting with people that I've met (and some that I haven't yet!) - the energy and enthusiasm is wonderful. If you haven't been to chat yet - do give it a try - it's fun, informative and buzzing!!

**Radiant Recovery Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Mid winter. I think lots of you are cooking We have wonderful resources for you in the store. Program friendly cookbooks galore!

Our Radiant Recovery cookbook is the cookbook Kathleen put together. This has fabulous information for getting started in the program. It is simple to use and must for every program kitchen.
Here is what Emily says about Naomi's cookbook

I haven't tried any of the meals yet, but Naomi is a hero in our house for her ability to make wonderful program friendly dessert alternatives and baked goods. My youngest loves the carob muffins and yesterday we made the Pesach chocolate cake and it was declared yummy and will go with us to a wedding tomorrow. Last week we made the cornbread which is delicious. I haven't had the book very long, but I'm excited to start trying more recipes. I've promised the girls we'll try the corn dogs and my oldest really wants to try the cinnamon rolls. I'm sure the more adult food is great as well, I just haven't gotten to that yet.

However, I did make my first meal out of Sheila's cookbook last night and it was fabulous. It got 4 thumbs up in our house. Dive in and report back here!

Sheila's Kitchen Recipes is full of wonderful recipes for weight loss. They are high in potassium, low in sodium and delicious. And many are great fall choices.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Our Online Groups**

One of our very specialized groups is RadiantDiabetes where we talk about the different aspects of managing diabetes while following the guidelines of the RR program. As you might imagine, it is a little more difficult to keep our BS levels in a good range than it is for people who don't have diabetes. We do this with humor and lots of sharing. If you have diabetes, pre-diabetes, or someone you love has them and you would like to get more information, as well as support and encouragement, please come join us.

Or come to the group page to see all our groups. http://www.radiantrecovery.com/list_serves.htm

**Radiant Ranch**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

We are also gearing up for Radiant Ranch in early May. I thought you would like to know the history of our great annual event. We started with me and 20 newbies meeting up in a place called Ghost Ranch, which was Georgia O'Keefe's home in Northern New Mexico.

It was a pretty intense event as you might well guess, LOL. We went to Ghost Ranch for a number of years and loved it. They changed management and became unwilling to accommodate our food needs, so we moved on down to Albuquerque. We held a ranch at Los Pablanos which is an old hacienda. It was beautiful, but again handling the food just didn't work.

This year we are going to the Hotel Albuquerque. It has wonderful views and is right next to the heart of old town. I am thriled with the venue. The meeting room is carpeted, the pool is delightful, the restaurants are excellent, the rooms are spacious and the mountain is right there out the window. The entire hotel is handicapped accessible and the meeting room is in the same building as the rooms.

And this year we will be doing a combination of work on the basics of doing the program for newcomers as well as going into depth about some of the ideas I have been presenting in the brain class. I want to talk about how brain patterns work with the neurochemicals in sugar sensitivity. And perhaps even more important, how understanding those patterns can add to your healing. I am excited about this year's ranch. Most of our leadership people come, so if you want to meet the folks who guide you through the lists, this is the place to do it.

hacienda

And if you want to come and meet me and really get to see how this all works, ranch is the place for it. I think of ranch as our community annual meeting. The time we come together, play, have fun, learn things, deepen our connections and chart the directions for the new year. And based on the consultation we did last year, I am paying special attention to the needs of the introverts. So if you are an *innie*, know that you will be well cared for.

Sign up now so you make sure you get a spot, and then set your computer to track fares to Albuquerque. Airfarewatchdog.com is great. Southwest continually runs great sales. And email me if you have any questions at all.
