Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well, as you get this, I am in Maine with my family staying in a little house right on the ocean. The sound of the surf touches my heart at night when I lie in bed. It is a wonderful time. This is the first time in many years that all my children and their father (and his wife) are together in one place for some quiet time. This week is also my 60th birthday - an event worth all of us coming together. We will eat lobster tonight, light a fire in the fireplace and just enjoy. We spent the afternoon on the beach. it is a long rolling beach and the tide goes far out. I will take pictures tomorrow so you can see too.

Because I am traveling this week we are not scheduling any classes. You can see an updated schedule for the future by clicking here.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery® website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Quote From Kathleen **

This is a process. You do not have a 'sobriety date' to mark that sugars are gone forever. You simply move more and more into a healthy relationship with your body.

** Testimonial for the Week**

I used to think my issues were all psychological too. :)

I tried all sorts of different pills, therapies, self-affirmations...anything and everything to deal with my food issues. Nothing worked except this program. I didn't believe it would at first but since I had tried everything else, why not this?

What was incredible was that it does work! I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, thinking that it was just the "honeymoon period" I was in. The honeymoon has lasted for a year and eight months and continues to blossom and deeply grow. It started so simply with just eating breakfast everyday.

All you need to do this is to be willing. Because beginners mind was cited so often on this forum, that's how I began. I forgot about everything else I "knew" and put my trust in the program because it worked so well for so many people.

Listen to the voices of the "radiant ones". They sing clearly and freely. If you want what they have, pull up a chair. All you need to bring with you is willingness. :)

**Recipe of the Week**

This is a recipe that many in the community have tried and loved. I hope you like it, too.

Pumpkin Biscuits with Orange Butter

  1. Preheat oven to 450.
  2. Combine first eight ingredients. Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  3. Combine milk and pumpkin; add to flour mixture stirring just until moist.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly until it is combined enough to roll out (at least 5 times). Roll dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  5. Cut into 12 biscuits with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter. Place the biscuits on a backing sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 450 for 11 minutes or until golden.
  6. Alternatively, you can place the batter into muffin tins and bake. This will eliminate the need for rolling and cutting the dough.
  7. Mix softened butter and orange flavoring together. Chill for 1 hour before serving with pumpkin biscuits.

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

Our two classes are coming to completion. The weight loss class is almost done with the preparation and will be joining weight loss in action soon. The Foundation class is redefining its sturcture and goals together. This is the joy of a *process* - we learn as we live it.

If you are thinking about new year's resolutions, think about joining YLD. It is only going to get better and better in the next few months.
For those of you who are not yet YLD members, click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun.

**David's Corner **

Many people have asked me about Omega 3 fatty acids and the value of taking fish oil. I asked Kathleen to write something for all of you. Click here to read her suggestions. And, of course, we carry great fish oil options.

Epa capsules are a concentrated, odor free, certified heavy metal option for adults. They allow you to get more concentrated EPA without extra Vitamiin A.

We have DHA for those of you who are pregnant or nursing. DHA is the fatty acid that is used to make your baby's brain. It is very important in the first three years of life.

We also have DHA Jr. for children. It has a higher percentage of DHA and comes in very easy to swallow (or chew) little perls.

And we also carry a very tasty cod liver oil (yes, it IS tasty!) for those of you would like to just put it in your shake or who need a larger dosage. Kathleen gives this to her dogs as well and they have NO skin problems. CLO is a great alternative for those of you who are in perimenopause and may be dealing with heavy bleeding. (sorry for a guy to speaking of a delicate subject). Ask Kathleen for more information on that one.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

And of course, we have something for everybody in our store

**Our Online Groups**

Elaine wants you to know the importance of breakfast and the benefits of joining the RadiantBreakfastgroup.

Most of us underestimate the importance of breakfast and try to do all the steps in the first week. When that doesn't work, we begin again. We concentrate on Step 1, breakfast, and find our lives begin to change.

The RadiantBreakfast list is a great place to learn the nuances of breakfast, build a strong foundation for the rest of the Steps, and find how helpful it is to share our journey with others. It is great for new people and those who have been on the program a long time. Sharing helps everyone.

The awesome thing is we all, Step 1 or Step 7, eat breakfast every single day. How cool is that?

We'd love it for you to Sign up. We love new members!

** Reflections from Maine**

Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I walked on the beach this morning. There was a golden retriever running. The sun came up and the entire beach turned gold. The sound, the sound of the sea feels like my heart beating big. There is a quiet here that is like nowhere else. Sea gulls, dogs running, early, early morning. Only 2 or 3 here on the beach. Somehow, the walking here feels effortless. I go up and back with gold going up and silver coming back.

My family is all sleeping. Scattered about. This is the first time in 10 years we have all be in one place at the same time. Last night, the world felt settled, complete. Except of course for the dogs who are as scattered as we are together. I miss them, their enthusiasm. The last time I was here, I had three dogs with me. Pepper was just a baby who struggled to keep up with London who despite three legs streaked through the silver foam.

Jen and Mike go walking on the beach. I go up to meet them. I am intrigued that beach walking is so effortless. We go all the way to both ends. Then back to the house. The sea has changed from silver to slate. The house smells like coffee and bacon.

We will celebrate both Thanksgiving and my 60th birthday. I love taking a chunk of time so different from regular life. It is comfortable to be with people who have been around for so long. Nineteen sixty two would be forty three years. Goodness, how can so long ago seem like last month. How can the babies we see in the video now be adults with children who are ten?

Being 60 is a milestone. An age of wisdom. Old enough to have done thoughtless things, enough time to learn lessons rather than stumbling again. Old enough to have a large storehouse of interesting commentary. Ah, perhaps this is why old people tell stories. I got my car inspected for registration. The guy refused to accept that this was my 60th birthday. It made me laugh. Perhaps he has pictures of what 60 means.

We are going to see Harry Potter this afternoon. A group event. I don't usually go to the movies. More likely I watch a netflix disc for stolen moments in the evening. But this will be an event, a time I can report back to Andrew with. At ten he *knows* Harry Potter and will appreciate what I learned. Tyler said, *I am too young. It will scare me.* It makes me smile that a five year old has been taught to honor his own knowing.

David is cooking, his dad is washing the dishes. Something happened in this family. The men do these things without being asked, without commenting. There is no fretting, no comments, no struggles. How nice it is, this flow. It is like the sea which is now deep blue. But they have concocted something for my birthday that they are not telling me. It is a family conspiracy. I can feel it. Tones change when I come back in. They put things away.

Thank you all for your patience with my being gone. I am thinking of you and sending my best wishes.
