Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well, I heard that a lot of folks stumbled with the Halloween gremlins. I am going to talk some more about this later. Have hope. You do not have to lose the whole holiday season.

These classes will begin this week. You can see an updated schedule by clicking here.

Anxiety is our newest class offering. We actually will be looking at anxiety, panic and phobia. And since I have found some new info, we will be also tying this into gut and bowel stuff as well. Come learn the chemical causes of these issues. Find out why anxiety is not a character flaw that you can will away. If you deal with it, or you have someone in your family or a child who is fearful, this is the class for you.

Step 5: Browing Your Family is one of our favorites. Learn the art of whole grains. Get lots of information that you won't find anywhere else. I picked the brains of one of the world's leading *brown* experts for this class.

Back to Basics 1 is our friendly ole standby for the step 7 folks who hit the wall and wobble around. Come join us if you are concerned about your program. You do not have to be in full-blown relapse. Even if you are just slippin a bit, come join us. This is a very fun sequence. Everyone loves it.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery® website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial for the Week**

Well, what a difference a year and this program makes! Friday, I had my first parent-teacher conference with my 6 year old's first grade teacher. All she could say was how wonderful Renee is, how well behaved and happy. Flash back to last year when I left the parent-teacher conference crying my eyes out, having been asked if anything was going on at home because Renee was acting out, belligerent, rude, easy to tears...

Last year I was severely depressed and stupidly thinking I was hiding it from everyone, I was thick into my sugar as was my daughter. It was last December that I found this program, last spring that I started the steps, this past summer that I started working with my daughter. I am only on step 3 and only starting with my daughter, but LIFE is GOOD! I have no doubt this program has changed our lives for the better. My daughter is happier because I am happier and steadier - she is ss and feeds off my moods. She is steadier because her food is steadier. She used to get served cookies and punch for "snack" last year in kindergarten - I have no doubt this affected her everyday. If I knew then what I know now... A few weeks into school Renee asked me if her days now were shorter than her school days last year. I said they were the same, she said she couldn't believe it, that last year the days seemed to last forever and now the day flies by. My dear daughter is happy and we are blessed by this program.

Thank you, Kathleen!!!
Very Warmly,
Cindy

**Recipe of the Week**

Wild Rice and Sweet Potato Stuffing

Ingredients: Directions:
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine wild rice, salt and water. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 45-60 minutes or until grains open. Drain and set aside.
  2. In another saucepan, combine sweet potatoes with enough lightly salted water to cover. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes until potatoes are tender but not mushy. Drain, set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 TBS. Olive oil over medium high heat. Add garlic, onion and celery and saute until vegetables are fragrant. They will be about 2 minutes.
  4. Add apples, poultry seasoning, and pepper. Continue to saute another 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. Combine wild rice, sweet potatoes and apple mixture. Add chopped parsley and combine well. Add almonds and toss.
  6. Use stuffing to fill poultry. Or you can put the stuffing into a lightly greased casserole dish and bake at 350 for 25 minutes until golden and heated through.

  1. Cut up the oranges, add the rind of one of them simmer in 4 cups apple juice for 15 minutes.
  2. Add 2 lbs. fresh cranberries and 1 1/2 cup of walnuts.
  3. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes until it thickens.
  4. Add 1 tsp. cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

I have had a number of emails this week asking me whether it is *too soon* to join YLD or whether it is appropriate to join if you are not dealing with a weight issue. The answer is that it is great to join anytime for any reason. YLD is way more than a diet program. It actually is the cutting edge of the community. The chats are where I bring new discoveries and reflections and in dialogue learn their power. Chats provide for the organic and exciting process we love. I would call it participatory leadership. Sometimes we just laugh and laugh, other times, some amazing insights just sparkle through.

And then of course if you want to lose weight, you cannot find a better program! As we are building our new YLD web pages, we will be posting all the testimonials for you.

For those of you who are not yet YLD members, click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun.

**David's Corner **

Well, after my enthusiastic report last week, I have some frustrating news. We got a fax yesterday from our manufacturer for George Junior which was called a Laboratory Analysis Waiver. It basically said if we wanted the shake to go out the door, we had to say we would release them from *any and all claims* re: the product and we would have to pay their legal fees if any claims were made. So if there were a problem with what they made, they would have no responsibility for it. You might guess that this does not work for us. So, we are waiting for the tests to insure that everything is all set with Junior. They said 5 days, but it may be more.

Then this morning, I got an email from the folks who produce regular George. We placed an order in September and they have been telling us delivery would be made now. This morning's email said, we are having trouble getting the oats and it will be another week before it is shipped.

I am working hard at not pulling out my hair, even though it is short. Here is what we will be doing. If you have ordered other goods, we will send them out right away and hold your shake order. The day I get Shake, I will get it packaged up and ready to go out - even if it is midnight.

My suggestion to all of you is to plan to have 2 months on hand. I am going to order with 3 months lead time so we NEVER have to do this again.

I have lots of everything else. And if you have any special instructions, you can email me at pipposse@aol.com. You can send flowers too, LOL, although today I was ready for some yoga or a workout at the gym.

And of course, we have something for everybody in our store

**Our Online Groups**

RadiantBigOnes is the list for a person who has 100 or more pounds to lose. It is unique in that we don't just focus on food challenges -- although getting 42 grams of protein at a meal can certainly be a challenge! -- but we also share information and support for issues that non-BigOnes may not even realize are an issue in day-to-day life. The interaction on this list is great because everyone is so supportive of everyone else and we learn so much from each other. We have people on the list who are in various stages of the 7 Steps, so if you're a BigOne, you'll fit right in! Come join us.

Starting the Holidays
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

Many of you had a hard time with Halloween and you think that the issue was about that one day. If you are not on step 7, of course you ate Halloween candy, you are a sugar addict. That is what you do when you are in your addiction. Candy jumps into your mouth and you are surprised that it happened. Your forgot that Halloween was powerful and seductive. You thought that doing breakfast would protect you from the goblins.

If you are on step 7 and Halloween candy caught you, it was NOT Halloween. It was the week or weeks before Halloween when the justas added up. A little extra here, some whites there, late lunch, forgotten journals, too much compulsive behavior, thinking *they* caused stress. The Halloween candy was not the beginning of your relepse, it was the end of many justas and your brain is telling you it was the candy.

If you were on step 7 and lost your way this week, come on over to the Back to Basics 1 Class starting on Monday. If you were not on Step 7 and are struggling, hook into the step you are on. The candy is not the issue, your program is. Think solution not binge.

If you don't take MAJOR action right now, you will be slipping and sliding your way till New Years. It doesn't have to be that way. This time you can do something different. It isn't about tomorrow or your birthday or after Thanksgiving. It is the next choice you make.

This year can be different. The *stress* you expect from the Holidays is induced by what you are eating, not by the outside. Halloween sets you up, Thanksgiving brings you to your knees, and Christmas and Hannukah finish you off. I am inviting you to a new plan, a different way of doing things. Engage, make connections, talk about solutions, come to chat. Stay focused on the steps and do your food. You can transform the holidays beyond anything you can imagine.
