Hi {!firstname_fix}

I have some fun things to report. I have had some new clients in the past few months - all alcoholics. They have reminded me of the lack of treatment options here in New Mexico. My heart got touched and I have decided to reopen a private practice. I found a wonderful office right in the same complex where we do ranch. I am furnishing it. Found some great old furniture that I took to be reupholstered or refinished. My daughter said, 'Mom, you do furniture rescue too!'

At any rate, I am doing the 'stuff' to make it happen. And we have a special relationship with the Rio Grande Inn, so I can offer all of you new alternatives. We will be doing short seminars, intensives, special-topic seminars and all sorts of fun things. I will have those planned for you soon.

In the meantime, I am working on upgrading our classes. I am working on a new workbook (to use with my local clients) and have come up with some really fun exercises. I will be sharing them in the classes. Everyone benefits!

These classes will begin this week. You can see an updated schedule by clicking here.

Learning About Depression is a great way to understand the chemistry of depression, the different medications now used for it and the best of our solutions.

Step 2 Journal: An Introduction is the best way to learn the art of journaling. This is way more than a record of your food, this is about learning connections. It is also about becoming aware of how what and when you eat affects you. If you want skill, come and learn.

Diabetes is a new class. We will cover the special adaptations you can do if you are also dealing (or not dealing) with your diabetes. Learn skills, find humor and share with other very skilled people how to get the best of all possible worlds.

Dealing with the Holidays: Thanksgiving is my really, really fun how to manual for surviving your family, and pie. Learn concrete suggestions for transforming the old way.

Back to Basics 3 (Must have completed Back to Basics 2 is the next step in the recovering your way sequence.

I will also be doing a class on anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia. I will outline the neurochemistry involved so you understand why these come on you with what seems to be without warning. We will look at how these disorders are also related to IBS. And most significantly, what you can do to help them. I am doing a great deal of research for this class and will be presenting some material you have not heard before. I guarantee you that if you suffer from any of these, you will be stunned at what I am going to share. Sign up now to insure your spot.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery® website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Quote From Linda Barnes **

Glimmers are good (smile). For me radiance is being able to do everyday things without feeling hugely burdened or overwhelmed. It isn't always bright and sparkly. Feeling satified with myself and where I am at the moment is a definite sign of radiance for me.

** Testimonial for the Week**

Hi everyone!

I started the programme a few months ago and have been 'babystepping' onto Step 3 for a few weeks now. Yesterday I had a wonderful compliment from a colleague which has made me realise how much progress I've made already - and just how powerful this programme is.

I started the programme partly because of my weight, but mostly because of emotional problems - panic attacks, agoraphobia, anger and depression. I found stabilizing my blood sugar has really helped me, and reading SATRP has helped me stop feeling guilty about having this chemistry. I just feel better to know I'm heading in the right direction by doing this plan. And a few weeks ago I started a new job.

Then yesterday a colleague said to me to ask if I needed help, and not to stress out about it if I was struggling. 'Mind you,' she said, 'not that you EVER get stressed out!' I laughed because I thought she was joking. 'Get real - I'm the most stressed out person there is,' I said. 'No way! Not only are you the calmest person I've ever met, I love it when you're in because you make everyone else calm down too!'

Well after I picked myself off the floor and wiped a tear from my eye I realised how much I have changed already. Considering six months ago I was suicidal because I was too afraid to leave the house, this is just the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me. I know I still have a long way to go, but now I'm more determined than ever to make this work. If Step 3 is this good, Step 7 must be incredible.

Just wanted to share this with you guys - hang on in there! And thanks Kathleen - you've changed my life!

Kerrie

**Recipe of the Week**

This is one of my own inventions. It is a really delicious side dish to any meal or could even be served as a warm dessert.

CARROT KUGEL

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream margarine and banana together until smooth. Add egg, juice, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nuts. Mix well. Add carrots and mix again. Place in a 9 inch round pan. Bake for 40 minutes. Serve warm or room temperature (do NOT serve cold).

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

Such wonderful things happening with you! The Foundation Class has been doing some planning on the role of the class. The group has moved from the big fret to warm, funny reflection on what they need and how to get it. What a joy it is to participate in the design and provision of this.

The Weight loss class is making connections that are incredible. I LOVE the energy and humor. Who would have thought that weight loss could be so much fun. You are dynamic, caring, skilled and thoughtful. I just love, love, love working with you.

Chat was fun this week. We talked about raising the Beta Endorphin bar. I like exploring these new topics with you.

And...drum roll....our experiment with making YLD an annual program gave us some great information. I didn't like it, LOL. So we are going back to LIFETIME!!! We are going to refund the fee for those of you who signed up for a second year and we are going to extend LIFETIME to every member. So if you have wondered whether this is worth it, hmmm, now is the time to join. Ask for your membership as a Christmas present. I think I am going to ask our current members to tell you why it is a good deal.

For those of you who are not yet YLD members, click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun.

**Our Online Groups**

Hi I am Ann, the geo coach for the Radiant Big Apple group. We are a fun group of people from the New York and New Jersey area, who are following the steps to a radiant recovery. Sometimes we actually can coordinate our busy schedules and have a meeting at a local restaurant. At those meetings it is always fun to meet face to face and discuss food, recipes and our life. We would love to have you to join us. Living in New York or New Jersey is not a requirement.

Change is Coming
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I shared up above some about my plans for a new office...a new private practice and a retail store coming soon. You have also read about the adaptations with YLD. The other change coming soon will be the change in our website. We have been planning to update the website for 3 years and just could not decide on what we wanted.

We now have a new design and have done HUGE housekeeping. We have been going back and forth about how to introduce the change. Typically, you just wake up one morning, come to the site and everything is different. However, I think sugar sensitive people don't do so well with that. So I want to give you the plan of action.

Before too long, we will be changing the home page. The look is entirely different and it will be organized a little differently although everything will be there. The link from the new page will go to back pages that may not be revised yet. So you will get to see the *wave* of change moving through the site as we update pages. And you will get to tell us if we missed links or missed a topic.

I am aware that this approach is a little unusual, but we are going to try it. I think it is less risky. Nothing will crash in a transition, LOL, and we will be in business for the renovation. Of course there may be some dust along the way.

If you have questions or input, post on the forum - that will be the check in board. I think you will be really thrilled.
