The whole concept of "desserts" is so individual.

For me, if it looks like cake/pie/cookies/pudding, (even if it contains only program friendly ingredients) -- it spells danger.
On the other hand, I can have a date or two everyday --with my oatmeal, or with an apple and nuts as snack, and I'm just fine.

I think I'm swayed more by the psychological aspect of it (looks like dessert)
than the intense sugar content that dates surely must have.

On the other hand, figs/dried apricots/raisins etc. are best left on the shelf.
I've no idea why.......my body just tells me so :h11)
