: Hi all,
: I had 2 previous attempts at shake -
: both abysmal failures.
: The first was a soy + honey protein
: powder mixed with milk, which gave
: me a terrible stomach ache.
: A couple of months later, I had a
: chocolate whey (+maltose) protein
: powder mixed with water, which
: gave me a headache & fatigue.
: (This was after being sugar-free
: for 3 months.....the maltose was
: the culprit.)
: I have recently looked into getting
: Restore, but to make a long story
: short, I was just given a
: container of a whey protein powder
: from a friend who didn't want it.
: So I decided I'd give it a try.
: It has "natural vanilla &
: caramel flavors"........is
: this sugar??
: I bought almond milk.........(was
: quite happy to find it......i'd
: heard there was a shortage in
: supply here)........and only after
: opening it did i see that it
: contained "evaporated cane
: juice"
: Yikes!!! I've been off sugar for a
: year and three months now.
: Wasn't sure what to do - have
: some.....not have any???
: It's the only kind they sell here.
: Long story short, I decided to give
: it a try, and here's what
: breakfast looked like:
: 1 cup almond milk.
: 3/4 scoop protein powder
: 2 tsp. tahini from whole sesame seeds
: cinnamon & ginger
: On the side, I had:
: cottage cheese
: stewed apples (which I had made the
: day before with peeled, diced
: apples - stewed in their own
: juice, nothing else added)
: 1 1/2 slices whole rye toast
: That was a few hours ago, and so far,
: so good.
: It was actually excellent but
: I'm keeping a close watch for any
: signs that the covert sugars may
: be to my detriment
: They do carry rice and oat milk
: here......I will check if they are
: sugar-free.
: I do wonder why most of you seem to
: have these alternative
: "milks" and not regular
: milk. If a person is not sensitive
: to dairy, is it ok to have protein
: powder in cow's milk (not that I'm
: crazy about cow's milk...) ?
: I would love to hear what you
: Experienced Shake People have to
: say.
: Thanks for listening
: Sarit
Hi Sarit:
I am very lactose intolerant and have the same reaction to soy milk. Rice milk is too thin and sweet tasting for me as is oat milk. Unsweetened almond milk is perfect for me. One time I had the sweetened variety because my daughter didn't know to buy the unsweetened kind and it tasted way too sweet for me.
However, my shake does taste sweet to me because I put fruit in it - usually a banana or Sprout baby food I buy from the store.
So, I don't know of any prohibition against cow's milk. I think it's just that an awful lot of people are lactose intolerant.
Oh BTW, you can make your own almond milk, if almonds are available where you live.
