Re: Still doing steps

Hi Terri,
You've been through quite an ordeal!!
I am no nutritional expert, but this is what I can offer:

Organ meats such as chicken liver or beef liver are high in iron as well as B-12.
I believe clams are too.
Greens are also an excellent source of iron. Leafy greens, and I have recently heard that dill is among the highest in iron.
Kidney beans are supposed to have the highest iron content of any legume.

Also vitamin C is important for iron absorption, so -- oranges, tomatoes, red peppers, bananas, etc.

Of course, a generally balanced diet of meats, eggs, whole grains, nuts, legumes and vegetables like PNP calls for will cover your body's needs for building blood.

If you Google "blood loss foods" you will get many websites with information that should be helpful.

Finally, plenty of liquids, rest and giving your body the time it needs to catch up with itself.......all these will support you.

Wishing you good recuperation.
All the best,
Sarit

: Hello Everyone!

: It has been a while since I posted.
: The summer was crazy busy but I
: managed to continue doing the
: steps. I'm still plugging away at
: step 3 with a tighten on 2 because
: I let that slide for a wee bit. My
: kids just started back to school
: last Tuesday and Wednesday I had
: an emergency visit to the hospital
: after losing 2 pints of blood. I
: had a varicose vein in my right
: leg near the ankle just burst that
: morning after showering and it
: poured out like a fountain for
: over 30 mins before medics could
: get there. It was very scary!

: I ended up getting very dehydrated as
: they wouldn't let me eat or drink
: for about 6 hours til they could
: determine the cause in case they
: needed to do a procedure. That of
: course through my food off and
: it's been a struggle to get my
: food steady again ever since. I
: have felt very weak and have a
: hard time eating the amount of
: food that is required. Prior to
: that incident, I was starting to
: feel really good and was preparing
: to move on to step 4 in a couple
: of weeks. Now I've decided to give
: it a couple more weeks to get my
: body strengthened again.

: I know I'll be back to normal soon
: but in the meantime does anyone
: know if there is anything I can
: add that would help build up the
: blood that I lost any quicker or
: is it just going to take some
: time. My energy has been very low
: this past week but feel it slowly
: starting to come back. I've been
: getting quite nauseous after
: eating lunch but then read about
: fish oils don't always agree with
: ss people. That's when I take some
: so I will experiment tomorrow and
: not take any and see if it makes a
: difference.

: It's good to be posting again.
: Summers are my busiest time of
: year so it feels good to be able
: to slow the pace down again and
: continue to get support here.

: Warm regards,
: Terri F
