I used to pick the skin on my heels.
It often made it hurt to stand on my feet,
my heel would be very sore from the skin being picked
quite deep.
I've been on the program for a year and two months,
and have actually forgotten that I used to pick my skin.
I don't know the science of the food connection to
picking / trichotillomania,
but I know my picking was related to anxiety,
and these days I am much less anxious,
and I have forgotten all about picking.
It was only after reading this thread that I remembered
I ever did it.

: Hi Kathleen!
: I've suffered from trichotillomania
: (hair-pulling, an impulse control
: disorder) since I was 10.
: Recently, I found that some
: scientists claim the disorder has
: a relationship with sugar... and
: it seemed too great a coincidence.
: I did a tid bit of research, and
: found that this idea seems to come
: from a recent study that found the
: trich patients had "raised
: glucose metabolism in the
: brain".
: I don't understand what that is. Many
: scientific terms (tryptophan etc)
: also found in your book pop up and
: I'm confused...
: Does "raised glucose metabolism
: in the brain" refer to
: something similar to what you call
: "sugar sensitivity"?
: Your help would be very much
: appreciated!
