I would be so interested in hearing this answer. I, too, suffer from self-injury. I am a picker. I have a bad tendency to pick at skin and pimples. I've had to work on it, but when times are stressful, it is so difficult not to do.
Hi Kathleen!
: I've suffered from trichotillomania
: (hair-pulling, an impulse control
: disorder) since I was 10.
: Recently, I found that some
: scientists claim the disorder has
: a relationship with sugar... and
: it seemed too great a coincidence.
: I did a tid bit of research, and
: found that this idea seems to come
: from a recent study that found the
: trich patients had "raised
: glucose metabolism in the
: brain".
: I don't understand what that is. Many
: scientific terms (tryptophan etc)
: also found in your book pop up and
: I'm confused...
: Does "raised glucose metabolism
: in the brain" refer to
: something similar to what you call
: "sugar sensitivity"?
: Your help would be very much
: appreciated!
: Marie
