Trichotillomania & sugar sensitivity
Hi Kathleen!
I've suffered from trichotillomania (hair-pulling, an impulse control disorder) since I was 10.
Recently, I found that some scientists claim the disorder has a relationship with sugar... and it seemed too great a coincidence.
I did a tid bit of research, and found that this idea seems to come from a recent study that found the trich patients had "raised glucose metabolism in the brain".
I don't understand what that is. Many scientific terms (tryptophan etc) also found in your book pop up and I'm confused...
Does "raised glucose metabolism in the brain" refer to something similar to what you call "sugar sensitivity"?
Your help would be very much appreciated!
Marie
