thanks all for your responses. kari thanks for reminding me that high cholesterol can be tied to sugar--i do recall reading about that. my cholesterol isn't so high that my dr. has me on medication, so what a relief to realize i should be focusing on the protein and not worrying about trying to control too much else at this point.
