Welcome Meghan!
This is a great place to be for sugar addiction. I spent 10 plus years trying and doing others programs and ways of eating and this, by far, is what keeps me most satisfied and feeling optimal. It's a great journey to be on and miracles unfold as we keep "doing the food".
Let us know how we can support you.
Warm regards,
Terri F
: Just wanted to introduce myself, as I
: hope to be using the forums more.
: My name is Meghan, and I am a sugar
: addict in a family of alcoholics.
: Candy and chocolate were my
: saviors and vices for many years.
: Over time I have realized that
: sugar is my enemy, and when I eat
: it I transform into a Sugar
: Gremlin which will probably snap
: and yell at loved ones and then
: cry uncontrolably for doing it.
: Fun times, let me tell you.
: So last year, I decided it was time
: to take action. I cut sugar and
: all sweeteners from my life. It
: was very hard and withdrawal
: sucked, but once I was on the
: other side of it, it made the
: decision a lot better. The groggy
: head and swollen eyes I attributed
: to allergies turned out to be
: sugar hangover, so those symptoms
: went away. I was more level headed
: and nicer to be around. My husband
: no longer tiptoed around me and my
: son didn't have to worry about
: getting his head ripped off. when
: I DID eat sugar, I was usually
: slapped with an instant migraine
: and sometimes a stomach ache.
: So, I fumbled around for a long time
: without guidance. I stumbled on
: the Potatoes not Prozac book about
: 6 months ago and read it. Funny
: how you read and take away only
: things that you want to take away.
: I read it as I was doing all the
: right things and to keep with it.
: I focused a lot on protein, still
: skipped the sugar, but didn't do
: the journaling or the potatoes.
: Jealous of friends success loosing
: weight, i tried doing paleo for a
: while. Now that I'm reading the
: sugar sensitivity book, I have a
: MUCH better understanding of why
: that diet was a huge failure for
: me. I was spiral eating nonstop.
: Not hungry, but craving, and
: nothing I put in my mouth would
: satisfy. I also was having major
: anxiety attacks and bouts of
: depression again. I also gained
: weight instead of loosing it, and
: felt totally out of control.
: Then I found myself sneaking more
: bites of chocolate, the occasional
: cookie, etc.
: So after lots of anxiety attacks and
: days where i would call in sick
: just to hide in my bed, I decided
: it was time to take care of my
: mental health and not worry about
: my physical as much. I started
: doing my daily yoga again, even if
: it's only 15 minutes, I do it as a
: quick check in and reminder that I
: am focusing on healing.
: I also bought the sugar sensitivity
: book for my kindle and have been
: reading that, and I purchased a
: cute little notebook to keep with
: me for my food journal.
: I've got the protein thing down, so
: for me I'm working on step one but
: making sure I have the browns WITH
: my protein. The plate of scrambled
: eggs and bacon needs some oats or
: toast. So it's still a new
: beginning.
: I also have decided to take some more
: time getting support on the
: forums. Even if it's just reading
: and learning I'm not the only one.
: I also hope to sign up for some
: classes on here. We will see.
: So thanks in advance for all of the
: support I know I will get from
: here. I really appreciate it.
: Meghan
