If you have an alcohol problem, you are most likely sugar sensitive. And many sugar sensitive people go for bread and pasta etc instead of sugar. The program addresses many addictive behaviors, including drinking and eating disorders.
If you aren't sure, you can probably get the book from your local library, or skim through part of it at the bookstore to see if you think it relates to you. I knew it was about me when I read the symptoms of low blood sugar and beta endorphin, and realized those were the things I didn't like about myself.
It can't hurt to try the program. Rehab will cost money and disrupt your life. The program won't cost you anything but groceries, and won't disrupt your life. What many people find helpful if they have a drinking problem is a combination of AA and the program. The program addresses the biochemical imbalance that is behind the addictive behavior, through making slow, steady changes to your food. It worked for me, when medication didn't.
Step 1 is breakfast. It has 4 parts:
enough protein for your body weight
a complex carb
within an hour of getting up
every day
And you can work your way up to this slowly. You can pick whichever of the 4 parts is easiest and start with that. You can work your way up to the full amount of protein. And you can have your donuts along with the protein and complex carb, if you want.
