I am also about 5'4" and have not had a weight problem - in fact, when I started the program, I weighed about 115. My major problem was depression and crazy thought patterns. It had never occurred to me that I had a problem with food because I didn't have a weight problem, but it turned out the food I was eating was making me whacko.
Fruit is an individual thing. But you are absolutely fine eating it - when you get to step 6, you can evaluate which fruits, if any, work for you. I still eat fruit, including banana from time to time. I wouldn't even worry about it for now.
