I think it's really individual........I don't do well with any artificial sweeteners, even stevia which is considered 'healthy'.
On the other hand, I can occasionally have some mayonnaise, which contains sugar. For some reason, that doesn't spike me or create cravings.
There are various recipes in the Radiant Recovery Recipes that are sugar-free and sugar-substitute-free but are reminiscent of cake/cookies and such, so I stay away from them too. Just the idea of it looking like dessert does something to my head and makes me want the "real thing".
It is really amazing how different we all are.
We probably all have slight variations of the sugar sensitive biochemistry, so it is natural that different things would work/not work for different people
