Re: I'm balanced! Seriously...how'd that happen.

Joy dot: new office furniture being installed today, and I finally can move back into my office after camping out in another office after we had a water leak in September.

Hi Linda
I needed snacks between meals for a long time, until my blood sugar stabilized. I still need a pre workout snack or late afternoon snack when I am working out regularly Step 3 is a big step, and it usually takes people a while to get all of it.

Instead of a protein bar, what I have been using is Elaine's yam cake recipe in the recipe section of the resource center on this website. I will have one after a workout if I feel like I need something before we get dinner cooked. They are very satisfying. I am going to play with the recipe and try things like adding shredded coconut or some pecans. My husband likes them too. I also have a recipe someone gave me for chicken and rice muffins that sounds like a great, balanced portable snack, and I will be trying those soon.

: I made the decision to get up EARLY
: to eat breakfast within one hour,
: and PRIOR to my workout. I go from
: my own one hour insanity to
: walking the dog about 2.5 miles in
: about 40 minutes. If I eat within
: limits, then I found myself
: falling flat on the walk. Getting
: jittery, tired, and irritable. I
: put a half a protein / energy bar
: in right after my workout. I leave
: about a 20-30 minute gap to
: recover and then walk the dog
: (that's my prayer and meditation
: time-so yes, I will continue!). I
: eat a small snack of fruit and
: homemade yogurt about an hour
: later, then I have to put three
: hours between meals. My biggest
: deviation from what's in the book
: is the snacking and the morning
: routine. I crash without a snack
: in between meals. Even with the
: potato, I'm starting to wake up
: hungry, which is a good sign that
: my systems are kicking back in.

: I was doing 21 meetings in 21 days
: and that's gone by the curb now as
: I start my summer research cycle.
: I will miss that support of my
: sanity, but my sponsor suggested
: that I call her for 21 days
: straight, and so I've continued to
: do that, like I'm supposed to
: anyhow! Ha! I'm not in fear of
: drinking, just eating!

: There is a young woman in my program
: who is anorexic. When we go to
: lunch, we split the food because
: she needs to eat more, I don't
: need to eat the full plate!
: There's a twist on balance huh?
: It's hard for her to tell her
: sponsor, because if you're a
: "normie" you don't get
: it. Anyhow, I did suggest to this
: young lady that she start with
: breakfast. She says eating
: breakfast makes her hungry :-) .
: Ah well, breakfast with protein
: and a complex carb is my mantra
: for her! She's still got relapse
: issues from the primary program so
: it's not anything I'm going to
: push.

: I see now though, that THIS program
: works if I work it as it's laid
: out. Getting reconnected to my
: body and emotions is a big deal.
: Having solid boundaries is a
: learned process, but you know
: what? Good boundaries keeps me
: emotionally sane! Ha! Who knew?
