Re: 12-Step Groups (beyond the food)

Those things pretty much went away by themselves once I was really steady on the food. I don't hate myself any more, I don't get into drama the way I used to and I don't make up drama in my head, I don't overreact to everything and make it into a big drama, I don't get into bad relationships, and I don't shop compulsively. I did not have to work at any of that, it just happened.

Some people do 12 step programs for different aspects of addictive behavior, and some people see a therapist if they have emotional issues they need to address. Once you are in recovery, therapy is much more effective. I know it wouldn't have helped me much before the program, because my negative feelings were created by my biochemistry, and no amount of therapy would have changed them. I was just stuck.

I was amazed how much stuff just went away without much effort at all.
