Cereal is a great complex carb for your breakfast, but you need to add some protein. You could mix some greek yogurt, protein powder and milk and put that on your cereal. That is what my husband does when he has Cheeries. And he also adds some blueberries. Are you using greek yogurt? The regular yogurt is kind of light in protein, so I like to use greek yogurt.
