Just my two cents worth in answer to your question;
I switched to decaf coffee and decaf tea over a year ago. I tapered off gradually, cutting about 1/4 to 1/3 my usual intake of the caffeinated stuff until it was just decaf. I totally get the feeling "flat" for awhile. Substituting green tea or herbal teas absolutely did not do it for me, as I love the smell and taste of fresh dark coffee and the cream in it.
I can say that now I can really take it or leave it. Surprisingly, I sometimes skip decaf anything with breakfast and wait until I get to work for my first cup and sometimes skip that. There is no "buzz" with it any more at all and I don't miss it. Some days I have none and most days just two decaf a day. This is a definite surprise-I was very addicted and hated the wirey-ness it gave me, but I hated the fuzz-head of doing without, even more. Now it's a non-issue.
