Beans can be either a protein or a carb. So if you use them for both, you would need to eat the amount of beans you need for your protein, and then in addition, the right serving of carb for you. For instance, if a cup of rice gave you the amount of protein you need, then you couldn't count that same cup as your brown.
You could use brown rice for your carb. I buy brown basmati rice made by Lundberg farms - it's at health food stores, or even in the natural foods section of some regular grocery stores. Or you could have potatoes.
