I was also one of those people who wanted to understand everything. In the end, understanding didn't necessarily help me do the program, especially at first, although it did help me believe in the program. The changes happened whether I understood them or not.

Actually, a lot of this information was stuff I learned after detox,by taking classes, that suddenly made me understand things I had done in the past. And so many of my issues cleared up on their own from doing the food, so then I could concentrate on the ones I was still dealing with.

But most of this stuff doesn't come into play until step 7 - before you reach that point, the food has more of an effect than anything else you could play around with.
