adding sugar into diet?

Hi there!
I am confused, I have been working step one, two and three. (sometimes adding potato)
I am fairly new, (one and 1/2 months- coming off low- carb diet) have been told I am trying to do too much. Agreed. However, I am used to restricting desserts and have been for quite some time. I recently had a binge but they are less frequent. Someone suggested that I add sugar into my diet. Won't that make me crazy, or gain weight, or just be counterproductive?
Thanks for all the help so far. I really am trying to listen. The thought of adding sugar is scary.
By sugar, I mean things that I would have binged on.
