Joy dot: a walk in the woods at lunch, complete with butterflies, a frolicking squirrel, ducks calling from the ponds, and woodpeckers. Plus the trees are budding.
Today I was helping to cover lunch breaks at one of our child care centers. (I am the data manager for an Early Head Start program.) The children were sleeping, so one person watched them, and I was just there as an extra body in case of emergency. There were some cooking magazines in the office, put out by Kraft. I started reading them, and I was just struck by something. It seemed like all the recipes had stuff in them that I wouldn't even consider eating, or generally would not have cooked with, things like velveeta, hot dogs, crescent rolls, miracle whip etc. None of the recipes were very appealing to me - not even the pictures. They had one article on snacks. There were none that I would eat - a lot of them had things like pudding, or jello. And they had an article with instructions for making Kraft noodle dinner (plus they sell snack packs of it that you just heat up)I was looking at it thinking, none of this is food! But I remembered making stuff like this in the past. And I'm sure lots of people would have been thrilled to have these recipes to make for their families.
Just another reminder of how much has changed for me since I started the program.
