Hi Copper,
For me, it really helped to know the reason for eating within the hour. With my ss biochemistry, I am very susceptible to blood sugar crashes. Focusing on breakfast first thing is what helps me to steady my blood sugar. Steadying my blood sugar is the first step to creating a steady biochemistry. When I wake up in the morning, I haven't eaten all night, so it is important to eat...so my body doesn't think it is in stress and release beta endorphins...creating more wonky biochemistry. Beta endorphins contribute to cravings, and the vicious cycle of craving sugar continues. By eating breakfast first thing, it is the first step to quieting the volatile blood sugar, and a step to quieting the cravings. The cravings will still be there until you make it through all the steps, but having breakfast first thing is a step towards creating steady blood sugar....steady biochemistry.
You're always welcome to explore and see what you think. Most of us who have been around for a while know that it is more important to eat first, and then figure out a time for exercise. Or like others have suggested, at least have 1/2 of your breakfast before exercise.

: Hi everyone,
: I have been doing step 1 for a few
: weeks now. My question is about
: time. I exercise fairly often. I
: am used to exercising right when I
: get up for about a half hour on
: the elliptical at the gym. I get
: up most days at 7:00 and am home
: from the gym by 7:50 which is when
: I make breakfast. Sometimes by the
: time I eat it is 8:10, therefore
: not really within the hour. Am I
: being insane or is this within the
: time frame? Exercising after I eat
: is not really something I think is
: good because of digestion. I
: cannot wait 2 hours because of
: work. I cannot exercise at night-
: I hate to and work some nights. I
: also do yoga on 2 days a week
: which is no problem because
: classes start later.
: Any thoughts?
: I am trying to do steps one at a time
: but exercise is not something that
: I think I should stop.
