Re: out of town woes
In Response To: out of town woes ()

I generally bring something with me in case of breakfast mishap. For instance, often there is instant oatmeal, so I bring protein powder and peanut butter to mix in. I generally travel with peanut butter and whole grain crackers for emergencies - that will hold me until I can get a real breakfast.

: I was in another town and thought I
: would be okay with where I was
: going and be able to pick and
: choose good meals. I even ate at a
: buffet, made good choices and said
: no to dessert. My husband, though,
: did not say no and grabbed 2
: cookies on the way out. So he ate
: one cookie and did not want the
: other one. He shoves it in front
: of my face and says here you want
: this? I said no. Then he said he
: had to go to the bathroom and had
: me hold his cookie. So here I am
: standing with a huge buffet cookie
: in my hand. I really did not want
: it. But that was strange. I
: wrapped it up in a napkin and
: saved it for my daughter. Why? Why
: could I not throw that cookie in
: the trash!!!!????

: So the next morning I am faced with a
: continental breakfast.....a bad
: continental breakfast, not even a
: boiled egg. I had decided the
: night before to go down to a
: little food court that sold
: breakfast burritos so that was my
: plan and I went to the food court
: but they did not open until too
: late so I had to go back up and
: make a decision about which
: pastry/bagel, etc. to eat. I ate a
: bagel and cream cheese ....and
: then I grabbed a blueberry muffin.
: Then I made the whole thing into a
: big failure/drama. I was stressing
: about something that day and
: decided since I already blew it
: just to dive in. I ended up
: blowing it all day (including
: TacoBell which I have not eaten at
: in 10 years) and ending my day
: with a huge candy bar. Something
: my doctor said to me came to me
: about then. "Dont make
: everything in your life about
: food." Holidays, stresses,
: failures do not have to create a
: food drama." Seems whatever
: is going on I create a food drama
: over it, good or bad. So next
: morning, I went right back to
: breakfast and have been steady
: since then.

: QUESTION: When faced with a junky
: continental breakfast, do you just
: wait to eat later? Is that the
: wiser choice....to not eat? Or do
: you go ahead and try and pick the
: "best" choice. Thinking
: back, I could have had a piece of
: toast. But there were so few
: choices. Not even any fruit. So
: would it have been better not to
: eat at all? Which I could have
: done easily. Next time I will plan
: better.
