Joy dot: soaked in a private pool at the hot springs this weekend

Claudia, I haven't found a single bar that I would recommend - I looked at a lot of them because my husband wanted to find one to use. They all contain lots of sugars (some of them can be legally listed as carbs on the label but they affect sugar sensitive people like sugar) and most don't have a lot of protein for the amount of sugar. It's much better to eat real food. I usually have cheese and whole grain crackers, but I can't remember if you eat dairy. Hard boiled eggs are a good portable protein and keep well without refrigeration during the day as long as they are in the shell . I've also eaten chicken and crackers. Nuts have some protein and are portable.

You could also experiment with the yam cake recipes in the resource center, adding in some protein powder and nut butter.

Are you going to eat your steel cut oats in your shake, or on the side? I think they would be pretty chunky raw. I add raw rolled oats to my shake and they mix in quite nicely. Bob's red mill makes nice gluten free ones. But if you are adding cooked oatmeal or eating the oats on the side, steel cut oats would be great. They are the only kind of cooked oats I generally eat - I don't like the texture of cooked rolled oats that much.
