Re: adrenal rush

Joy dot: it snowed last night. Driving into Albuquerque to work, all the little scubby plants in the big, wide open land along the freeway looked fluffy.

Hi Claudia
When you have a blood sugar crash, the body does release adrenaline.

What's in your protein shake?

Also, those protein bars are very high in sugar. Not only do they have actual sugar, but they are full of other substances that our bodies process as sugar, but that can legally be listed as carbohydrates. I have always avoided them. When my husband asked me to help him pick one out, I couldn't find a single one I would recommend to him. You might want to look at the recipe section of the resource center at the yam cake recipes and see if you could modify or use one of those in place of a bar. You could add protein powder to the recipe. Nut butter also can be used in them, so with nut butter and protein powder you could make them a carb/protein snack. It looks as though you don't eat dairy. When I wasn't eating dairy, I would have a hard boiled egg and whole grain crackers as a snack.

I have had issues with adrenaline in the past. The best thing for me to do is to go exercise and burn some of it off, so I would go for a very brisk walk at lunch. And I would make a conscious effort when sitting at my desk to take long, slow breaths.

It just occurred to me that I haven't had a big adrenaline rush in quite a while. Usually if I get one now, it's when there is a significant amount of stress going on, like when my husband had open heart surgery.
