You're doing fine. You've just started journaling. It's going to take a while before you start seeing connections between what you eat and what you feel. Right now you're just getting in the habit of recording your observations. For now it's great if you're recording everything you eat and then recording what you feel when you notice those feelings. No need to try to put 2 + 2 together yet. You're creating the data base that will help you do that in the future.
I didn't really start making those connections until I began looking for specific things--e.g., why am I so angry so often? One day came when I WASN'T angry, I was really very pleasant, and I noticed that that was a day on which I hadn't had a soy protein shake. More sleuthing helped me see that this was always true--eat soy, be angry, no soy, very little if any anger that day.
