Hi, Kathy,
I think it's great that you're aware enough to realize that this would be giving part of your energy away.
If someone asked me not to contact him any more, I'd feel it was important to honor his wishes. He had the right to say "no" to me, and I must respect that. I recently asked a very good friend not to contact me any more (he's married, I'm not, and I like him too much for us to be friends). And I feel honored and respected because he has NOT contacted me.
And I have also had people contact me from the past whom I asked NOT to get in touch with me, and they'd argue, "but I'm different now! I'm better now! I'm not that person!" But they simply were not treating me and my request with respect. The fact that they thought it was okay to ignore what I had asked them to do showed that they were not different.
I think in honoring his wishes you are honoring yourself.
