October 13, 2014 Hi {!firstname_fix} I meandered my way back from Euroranch, stopping in Ireland to visit a friend and colleague in Northern Ireland. What a beautiful place that is. I would say this trip has been life changing for me. Ranch was so settled, and so deep. It felt as if things were shifting on a deep, deep level...a place without words. I just know that I am home and wanting to clear out old stuff and make space for the new to flow in. I washed dogs, vacuumed and am decluttering. Of course it is dog shed time of year, so there is dog hair everywhere. This morning I took them to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and when I came back to the car, dog hair was flying. We are making a few changes in the community. Have combined the Brits and Euros lists into a new list called EuroBrits. The combination was such a nice one at ranch, it seemed like the logical thing to do. We also will be taking down some of the lists that are outdated or not being used. We have changed the Radiant Recovery Facebook Page to a *closed* group, which means that only members can read posts. A number of you have asked about this and it seems like a logical time to implement it. I hope you will come over and join us. We will be moving the eurochat times to an hour earlier...we will start this after all the time changes are settled. This will allow our friends who are East of GMT to attend without having to stay up so late. And, I will be restarting my BLOG shortly, so make sure you check it out...it will be a nice way to keep you all updated on what I have been thinking about. And then chat will become a place for dialogue. This class will begin Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned. A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum. Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly. Warmly, Kathleen **********************************************************************

**Testimonial of the Week ** *Happy waggy doggies *Delightful driver daughter *Potato and broccoli spicy veggie burgers from the market in Salisbury Hello my lovely ranchers, I had a couple of aha moments on the way home from ranch and it was suggested I might share them with you. At the train station in Bristol I met a very grumpy bus driver who made a big fuss because I didn't have the right change. I went to the shop to get some and as I came back to the bus he pulled away. At first I angry and tearful, then I remembered that it was time to eat. I sat down and had some nuts and oatcakes while I waited for the next bus and felt better straight away. When I got to the airport I wasn't hungry for lunch because of the snack. In the past that probably would have pleased me and I wouldn't have eaten anything, or even more likely I wouldn't have noticed and would have been snacking on rubbish all day. However, being all ranched up, I knew that eating lunch was the thing to do. I found a lovely salad in Starbucks with eggs and ham hock and peas and greens. Mmmm. My body and brain were so thankful. Especially as the plane was delayed and I didn't get home for another meal until 8pm. Miss you all and still feeling all warm and fuzzy and strong from ranch. **Notes from the Forum ** In Response To: suggestions for snacks I condense Jo Ellen's egg snack and have egg and hummus mashed in a cup, though carrots is a good one. I just like licking the spoon. My old-faithful portable snack is almonds. Not a real brown-and-protein, but they are a great emergency thing to have in one's handbag. As they last for ages and don't go furry. Soy nuts as well, though I had forgotten about them till you said! Babybel cheese or those cheese string things are also a bit portable. At home a rummage in the fridge around my sandwich shelf will yield some leftover chicken or cold meat, always some sliced ham or delicatessen meat... bean salad or potato salad, and I have always got some sweet potato about, and a necessity of life is green and black olives, so little niblets of those things are good for me. mosaic **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. The 2010 Ranch CD remains a favorite for those of you who have not heard it. It starts with a clear discussion of the steps. This will give you a wonderful updated reflection on each step, and then their relationship to one another. Ironically the going off of sugar step is the shortest time. I will let you guess which is the longest (smile). Then Kathleen talks about the Addiction Amoeba...those other pesky things that grab us along the way. If you have heard the term and wondered what we are talking about, this reflection will give you such a sense about how addiction creeps in, lodges in our hearts and sucks the life out. Kathleen said, *I listened to this maybe 20 times as we were editing. And I kept thinking, there is so much comfort here. To realize how much addiction is biochemical is so comforting. And to realize it can be healed gives so much hope. We don't have to do drama, or get scared or overwhelmed, we can just get things settled.* The emotional healing segment is a perfect companion for those of you who use Safe Place to meditate. It explains *why* guided imagery can heal things like nothing else will. Listening over and over was so healing. The words make sense. The words give tenderness and guidance the power behind this core part of what we do for healing. Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Kitchen ** Jo's ShakeMy favorite shake these days is double chocolate. I don't make it every day, because it takes a little longer than most shakes. But I like it. It is not at all sweet, so feel free to use my suggestions to make it sweeter. Sugar is fine on Step One.I've tried to make the recipe somewhat international, but I don't do too well on that. Fortunately, for readers from outside the U.S., the amounts are not at all precise. I never make mine the same way twice (smile). Once you get the technique down, it's easy to play with amounts.
Take the pan off the stove. Add the almond milk. I use about a cup. You can vary this, to taste. Stir well. Pour the cocoa/almond milk mixture into a blender. Add banana, vanilla, and protein powder. Blend. Add ice if desired to make the shake cold and thick. Blend well. **The Essence of Step Three ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
I have been reading a lot of talk about snacks and such and thought it might be helpful to give you some context. The purpose of step 3 is to create a *steady state* in your brain. This means having 3 meals at regular intervals with about the same amount of protein and carbs at each meal. It means introducing you to regular times, not having ice cream at 9 PM and not grazing your way through the morning. It also means learning to start, STOP and WAIT. (smile) Step three also gets you to focus on moving your sugar to your meals so it takes the *charge* off of your sugar hit. That is the core of it. Now if all this energy is going into snacks, snacks, my questions are… Are you getting enough to eat at your meals? Are you eating on time? Usually the answer is no to both. (smile) Take care of that first. Now are there times you *need* snacks? Yes...if you are pregnant or nursing, you NEED them. If you are exercising intensely, it is good to have a snack after. If you are a kid, you need something after school. Otherwise, you probably don't. (smile) Use this filter to see what is going on for you. Thanks for reading!
