March 31, 2014 Hi {!firstname_fix} Ok, I have to share my little miracle bulb story. Last year someone gave me an amaryllis flower. It bloomed and then withered. I put the dead bulb under the sink because it was dark. And then I forgot about it. A couple of weeks ago, I was cleaning under the sink [thank you decluttering class!] and I found this dead, withered thing. I put it on the counter, gave it some water and put in on my kitchen table. About a week later, it looked like this. I was kinda startled since before it only had one stalk. I continued to water it and touch it. Of course I told it how beautiful I thought it was (smile). It grew and grew...maybe 24 inches up and up. Then it opened up some flowers. And today, it was singing about Georgia O'Keefe in the New Mexico desert. I think it is a radiant flower. Give us some light, a little water, a whole lot of love, and no telling what might happen, LOL. We have a couple of spaces left at Ranch. If you are coming, make sure to call the hotel this weekend to do your reservations. They are releasing the block on the 4th. And if the person at the desk tells you there are no RR spaces on Monday, that is not true. The block is held through Tuesday. And yes, we will have coloring books. And for those of you who don't know what that means (smile), last year we converted from powerpoint to interactive learning and everyone had so much fun, they are insisting on a repeat performance. It's a wonderful collection of new people and long timers this year, so if you are wondering if you will fit it, fear not! It will be fabulous. This class will begin Wednesday, April 2, 2014. **Testimonial of the Week ** I haven't connected with this list for a while - in terms of sharing my progress. So I just wanted to say hello and give an update :-) Although I have only been doing this program for about 9 1/2 weeks now and I am just tightening up step 2 before moving on to step 3, I have felt some significant progress lately. Between starting an anti-depressant and starting the program, things are looking up! I am beginning to feel back to my old self! :-) And I'm sure by the time I make it through the steps, I will be feeling even better than my old self! This week I had an appointment with my chiropractor (who emphasizes nutrition) and he announced a significant progress in my health (without knowing about SARP and the medication). He even asked me if I had lost some weight (and I haven't). But then he wanted to start talking about a plan for weight loss. I explained this program to him and told him that I wasn't focusing on weight loss, I was just taking the steps slow and steady and I would eventually lose the weight. He was very impressed that I wasn't trying to accomplish the weight loss so fast like most people do. I am grateful to this program for helping me shift my focus away from the weight loss! This experience confirmed to me that, as we start experiencing little bits of radiance, our countenance changes to the point where people wonder if we have lost weight because we are starting to "radiate", not because we really had lost any weight! I had heard someone talking about this in a post, but didn't realize that I might even experience it 2 1/2 months into the program! Also, a friend of mine whom I hadn't seen in a few weeks and who knows I had been struggling, told me yesterday that there was more sparkle in my eyes, that they didn't look so "flat". Wow! Although I was realizing a slow change, it helped me to hear those confirmations from other people, that, yes, I am on the "up and up!" I am seeing how those glimpses of radiance can be felt as we go throughout the steps - and I love it! I can't wait for what is to come! Thanks to you all for your help and encouragement! Now I just need to get myself ready to start step 3! Amy **********************************************************************
**Radiant Ambassadors ** Have you ever wondered where authors get their ideas from? Well, there’s a well-known website called Help A Reporter Out that carries all manner of requests for information from reporters and authors alike. Our very own Emily responded to a recent request from an author about how to encourage our kids to eat more veggies. She has been told that not only her story will be included in a book but also a mention of Little Sugar Addicts! Selena selenas@blueyonder.co.uk Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************
**How I Found Radiant Recovery ** Hi, I'm Roxanne from Oceanside, CA. I'm 55 and I've been struggling with this sugar thing for 40+ years and I just want to stop the binges and weight fluctuations. I've been eating breakfast with protein for quite a long time, before I found the books. I use a Fitbit and can be pretty good about logging my food, and they also have a food journal where you can log your food, mood, etc. I'm having trouble doing an actual paper journal. What I'm working on is eating w/in 1 hour of getting up (very hard for me) and eating a potato at bedtime (the last thing I feel like doing is eating before bed, esp. a potato!) So I'm trying a little tiny potato. I've tried to talk to my husband about the issues, but he really doesn't get it nor does he seem too interested, although my moods directly affect him. I've asked him to read the book but he hasn't yet. I found the site through the book. I have been on Prozac for 10 years or more as my PMDD was very severe. I could go on and on, sorry. I'll stop now. ;-} **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. I just wanted to talk about our Prime membership service. I am glad you are liking it. If you glossed over it, come see what you are missing. PRIME status means that you will receive a preferred price on many of the items we carry in our store. The store will offer many items at two prices, a regular price and a PRIME price (right below, in red). The PRIME price is close to 10% off a large number of the items we carry. Not all items have a PRIME price. If you have an "ACTIVE" subscription (not on hold or canceled), you will qualify for the PRIME prices at any time you make a purchase. You will also notice that we have lowered some subscription prices as well. If you select the PRIME price and are not an ACTIVE subscriber, you will be charged the regular price at the time your order is processed. The PRIME member will not need to remember a discount code or password to get the benefits of being a subscriber/PRIME member. Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Kitchen ** I was so inspired by a browning your family class that Kathleen gave, I have been playing around in the kitchen with some new exciting browns. Here is a really yummy 'pudding' that I invented based on a recipe I found (theirs had sugar in it LOL). Even my kids really liked this. In fact, one of my sons said I should make for the Sabbath LOL. BANANA COCONUT PUDDING

**Radiant YLD ** We have been chatting about finding a personal trainer! Having a personal trainer is not as scary as it sounds and is a fabulous tool to enable you to reconnect with your body. But how do we interview someone to find out if they meet our needs, how do we find one that understands the food and doesn’t try and put us on a diet (smile), how do we find someone who we connect with, and someone who’s affordable. That’s exactly what we are discussing! Steph x If you would like to join, come find us here **********************************************************************
**Radiant Conversations ** We have a new portal for the Conversations program. Come check it out here. Last week was a lot of fun! **Our Online Groups ** Hi, I'm Sue, and I'm a member of the Radiant Movement group for people who are new to moving their body and exercising. I had been struggling for many years to come up with an exercise routine that worked for me. I was out of shape, 100 pounds overweight, and I suffer from chronic pain and injuries. And every time I tried to move, I would hurt myself and have setbacks. I loved the support I got from the others on the list while I struggled to make movement a habit and honor my body and its challenges. But with a lot of patience, I found a way to make movement a big part of my life and my recovery. And I've become enthusiastic about wanting to help others get what they can from movement, and know that even moving for 1 minute a day is a great start! Right now, many of the regular posters are people who have been working on movement for a long time and are more consistent and can do more. I would love to also hear from more of you who are just starting out so that we can support you in enjoying movement as much as we do! **********************************************************************
**Healing Phases ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
Patti introduced this concept at a YLD beginner's chat. I was so impressed with the idea, I asked her to write this week's article. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Kathleen In working through the Radiant Recovery program, working the 7 steps, the question I am pondering is: Do we work a step, get it steady, heal, and move onto the next step without having to refine or go back to the previous steps? And if we do find ourselves going back, because it isn't working any more, does that mean we are doing something 'wrong?' I don't think so; I think we come across 'healing phases,' let me explain why. I believe that as we work each of the steps there is a sort of healing 'process' that our bodies go through. Meaning in one sense that what we start out doing on that step may not work long term, we may need to adapt what we are doing according to the healing that is taking place within our body. Maybe we add exercise, or stop eating as much sugar, or there is an underlying healing 'shift' (biochemical) taking place (unseen) where our outward lives haven't changed. Let me say more about this part. I believe that our biochemistry is, as we begin/work through/ and continue on with the steps always 'shifting' towards wholeness/healthy levels. I don't think that we get to a certain step, work it for two weeks, and bam biochemistry is healed. So, sometimes when a person is working a step, and they get it stable, and then they move on to the next step to only find that the previous step may not feel as stable any more, that it is because there is a 'healing phase'(one of a shift of biochemistry) that they may need to address. So, our body 'shifts' and all of a sudden some part of what we were doing before doesn't work. Maybe we are getting hungry before our next meal, maybe the potato isn't giving us restful sleep any more, or we start feeling emotionally out of balance. Our immediate reaction has often been, 'What am I doing wrong?' Well, I don't believe that we are doing anything wrong, necessarily. If we checked, and it all looks good, and we checked in with our buds and they don't see anything either, then what does this mean? I believe it means that I simply needed to 'adjust' my program to the changes within my body (whether things such as adding exercise/limiting sugar/etc. or inward biochemical changes/shifts). For me personally this occurred when I added in a training program. I was no longer able to go 6 hours between meals (I had been able to go 6 hours for years). But, I wasn't doing anything 'wrong.' My body was definitely indeed in a place of healing more, a 'healing phase', it was a good thing - but my meal timing didn't work right any more. I was getting hungry earlier. So I adjusted my meal timing to 5 to 5.5 hours between meals and amazingly everything started working again. The more intense exercise created a 'shift' and I needed to respond to that shift. Identifying these 'shifts' or 'healing phases,' when fairly early in program can be difficult. Our beta-endorphin levels are sometimes not supportive enough yet to help us to ascertain what is happening with our recovery. For instance, let's say we are going through one of these 'healing phases,, something that was working isn't working any more - we very often become discouraged and frustrated, and then this often leads to giving up, thinking that the program just won't work for us; that somehow we are doomed to a sugar-addicted life forever. We are not. (smile) Every one of us can have the radiance that is our birthright. And one of the most important things we can do when we feel the way I described in this last paragraph is to reach out in the Radiant Recovery community and share this with our buds. There are those who have walked the path before us, who daily share their experience, strength, and hope. Those who have walked through their own 'healing phases' many times, and can help us walk through ours. Through connecting with others we can then recognize that the possibility of help exists, and we rediscover the hope we thought we had lost. Thanks for reading!
