**Testimonial of the Week ** Hi All, Just wanted to post a journaling breakthrough. Oftentimes in the past 3 months since I started the program, I've wondered, 'Am I 'really' sugar-sensitive? I don't really eat sugar that much'. Well, yesterday I decided to go through my past 3 months of journaling (however sketchy it was) and write down all the things I keep eating. I was shocked at the result!! My sugar/white thing to non-sugar/white thing ratio is about 50/50. The journal showed it right in my face, in black in white (or in my case, pink, as that is the shade of my pen). Here is all the stuff I keep eating! Granola bars/cereal, chocolate chips, soda, jalapeno bread, ice cream, cookies, snack mixes and crackers, cookie/cake/muffin dough, chocolate milk, hot chocolate, donuts/pastries, eggnog, croissants, cake and pie, pizza/pizza pockets, waffles and syrup, chocolate bars and truffles, Doritos and BBQ potato chips, pudding, Asiago cheese bread, sweet coffee drinks, apple and orange juice, red wines, pasta alfredo, jam, hard candy, bagels, stuffing, caramels, biscuits, brownies, Pirate's Booty, spaghetti, french bread, and bean dip (the canned kind in the chip aisle). It's totally amazing how all of this can totally slip my mind when thinking about what I eat. What I imagine I eat and what I actually eat are two very different things. Thank the gods for food journals to show me otherwise! I've really been keeping up with my journal, especially since I ordered the 'Your Body Speaks' version. (Good call on suggesting that one, Cindy ;) ) It's interesting that the quote for today in that was 'If you don't have a journal, you have no record of your process.' I love stickers, so I got a bunch of sparkly ones that I put in the book for when I do exercise. I'm thinking about getting some food- shaped stickers for different goals like complete days of journaling (maybe I'll do it for each step I'm on, eh?). Anyway, I just wanted to share my discovery. :) Carmen **********************************************************************
**Radiant Life ** I had a realization about my journaling tonight as I was reading posts and thinking about my program. I've seen many times Val and others suggest that we substitute "body" for "journal" and I've seen people do that in things like "I hate my journal." But I couldn't ever figure out a way that a statement like that applied to my feelings. But, tonight it came to me. I forget about my journal. Or in reality, I forget about my body. The blanks in my journal are as powerful as what is written. When I don't journal - I'm forgetting about my body. I'm not taking care of her. I'm not in touch with her. I always journal breakfast - when I eat my breakfast I'm taking care of my body. I tend to want to journal when my food is good and I'm focusing on doing the steps. When things get rough, I have resistance. I think because I don't want to hear that I'm neglecting my body. I think this is also part of why I have such resistance to taking my journal out with me - I tend to be more loose with my food when I'm out and about. This feels like an important connection to me so I wanted to share. Happy journaling, Emily **********************************************************************

**How I Found Radiant Recovery ** Hello - my name is Allyson and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. Someone recommended Potatoes Not Prozac to me for my five year old son. When I read it, I saw myself. I'm starting to understand my struggles with food. I'm just on step one of the program. I'm looking for more support in this journey, so I thought I'd try the Radiant Recovery community. **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. I know you have been patiently awaiting the arrival of your Restore. I wanted to give you a personal update on what is happening with our back order. Essentially our vendor reneged at the last minute and informed us that they were unwilling to process our regular order. They have recently been purchased by a much larger operation and decided that they did not want to serve small business. Most of their runs do 20,000 to 1,000,000 units at a time. A little 1,000 unit run just was not interesting to them. And unfortunately, they gave us a very short lead time to deal with this. Had we known 4 months earlier, we would have been able to secure an alternative production company before our run-out date. That was the bad news and why you haven't gotten shake yet. The good news is that we found a blender who will turn things around in a very short time. I have been working 10 hours a day to find suppliers, get things ordered, determine amounts, change the label, get it printed and get all the materials to the blender. I am happy to report that all the ingredients are on their way to production and we are expecting to have shake in NM before the end of the week. The process has been grueling and has involved hundreds of emails, many, many phone calls and details beyond my imagination. And all of it has to be exactly correct. Change the type of jar ever so slightly, and you have to redesign the label and make a new die to hold it in place for printing. But I went through every single issue piece by piece or perhaps nano by nano. The other piece of good news is that we have generated the ability to order much sooner and with far more control over delivery date, which means WE WILL NOT RUN OUT. The last year has been a nightmare for me in having to go through these back-order blips. I can say that being *down and dirty* with the materials at this level has given me a whole different appreciation for how unique our product is. The blender says, *And what about the sweetener?* And I say, *We don't put any in,* and they are confused. They say, *You only have 3 ingredients?* And I say, *Yes...the power comes with the synergy of them...the formula creates a unique taste.* And now I can attest to the source of all the ingredients...and I learned that the whey protein isolate actually comes from New Mexico cows. That was a sweet twist for all the hassle of the last few weeks. The milk concentrate comes from Idaho, the egg white comes from Iowa. Everything gets shipped to California to be packaged. And the price of egg white has skyrocketed because McDonald's and Wendy's are now offering egg white sandwiches, LOL. I did not up the cost of shake. We have not compromised on the quality. Read other labels and see the ratio of the grams of protein to the total grams of product. Most companies are upping the *other* ingredients (rather than whey protein isolate) because they are cheaper. Most companies are putting all sorts of other things in. We are not. We were the first to make a *sugars free* product. We do not add sweetener. I developed a formula that makes an incredible taste. So you are getting a fabulous product from a woman-owned company using US ingredients from the finest suppliers. When David and I tasted the blend, we both agreed it tastes better than the old. I am deeply thankful for your patience with all this. Your loyalty and kindness is the reason I took on the task of making sure that OUR shake continues. And once we get this project settled, I will turn to adding a new product called George's® Vitamins. Put your orders in now. It will be mailed out the day after it comes off the truck. And if you have an order waiting, all the boxes and labels are set to go. Shake comes in, shake goes out to you! Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Kitchen ** I was so inspired by the recent browning your family class that Kathleen gave, I have been playing around in the kitchen with some new exciting browns. Here is a really yummy 'pudding' that I invented based on a recipe I found (theirs had sugar in it LOL). Even my kids really liked this. In fact, one of my sons said I should make for the Sabbath LOL. BANANA COCONUT PUDDING

**Our Online Groups ** The Radiantdepression group is about support for the person who is depressed and trying to work Kathleen's 7 step program of recovery from sugar addiction. Many of us have struggled with severe depression for years without any hope of finding an end to it. But through doing the food we have found that hope returning and have found light where before there was only darkness. Some of us are taking anti-depressants while doing the food, so we talk about how the two are compatible and we also share about getting through the tough spots together, with support from each other. If you are feeling depressed please come join us. There is hope. **********************************************************************
**More About Lunch ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
This article comes from an excerpt in Little Sugar Addicts. I originally wrote it for parents who are dealing with their children. However, as I am dong a lot of thinking about lunch, I thought it would be fun for all of us. I am actually going to post that list on my own refrigerator (smile). Before we talk about what to put in the other two meals of the day, let me share a little about the idea behind lunch and dinner for children. The most important rule is eating on time. Most sugar sensitive parents have trouble with regular meals on time. I mean this very kindly. You get distracted or involved or busy and you “forget” that it is 11:30 and your child needs to eat lunch. You figure the snack will tide her over and she will be fine. You know that you can push yourself a little more and just finish up. That may be true for your grownup body; it is not true for your child. So, step 4 means having to pay attention to time. I know, you thought I was going to say you have to pay attention to food. Yep, that too. But first, let’s do time. Children really cannot go more than about 3 hours without eating. Your parent job is to make sure they have food on time. It is funny; most parents think the contents of the meals are the most crucial. They get very motivated and start thinking about what to feed their children and don’t really factor in when. The more I talk with sugar sensitive parents, the more aware I have become about when. Let’s start with this. Think about the children who eat at home with you. This will be little ones who are not in day care and most of them on the weekends. Do a quick review and see if time is an issue for you. What are your typical routines? Do you even know when your children eat lunch? Start with what is easiest in making a time change. It may be weekends or it may be the during the week routine. Spend a week and see if you can get all the lunch times you have control over within the same 30-minute period every day. Just try this and talk with your children as you are. Get a sense of what supports this and what messes up your plan. Just as we have done with everything we are doing, knowing what gets in the way will give you choices about what you need to do to make this successful. Marty always gets in trouble on Saturday. She takes the kids out to do Saturday errands. She has just one more thing to do and pushes the time edge until her kids are falling off the cliff. One boy starts getting wild at 3.5 hours. The other starts to whine at 3 hours. Her daughter gets pale and quiet. Suzanne is fine with her kids on the weekend, but has a terrible time during the week. She works out of her home and gets on the phone - 11 becomes 12:30 in a flash. She has sweet kids; they are very cooperative and don’t whine or create a problem. She just didn’t notice that they got pale and lay down on the couch at 11:30. She just thought they were being good. Many parents really have to work on this one. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Talk with your children and see if you all can identify ways to have everyone help remember time. Set an alarm clock. Give the 5 year old a digital watch so he can come remind you. Write out the schedule and put it on the refrigerator. If every one goes off to school, plan for the weekends. Talk about lunch at breakfast time. What are the plans? Where? When? And then, of course, what? Lunch needs to have the same amount of protein as for breakfast. By now, you and your kids know the protein drill. Sit down with your kids and talk about lunch options. Be very specific. If they have fast food choices at school, have THEM sort out which choices will work. They may discover that they need a supplemental protein package. Talk with them about what will work. Here are some ideas for wraps
