January 6, 2014 Hi {!firstname_fix} Well, 2014 feels very different to me. Feels as if something very deep is stirring, like a wave of healing beyond anything we might have imagined. I am sharing this here so I have a record of saying it (Smile). I love that our community is swarming with new people and have written an article about our welcome. Winter feels like a time of quiet, hunkering down, being warm, and being still with things resting. Of course our friends down under are having a lovely summer, LOL. But brain does struggle with how such a thing can be. I have been doing almost 90 days of journaling carefully. It has given me a very different perspective on the power of journaling. I have never journaled in such a way before. Close attention to detail and patterns has revealed a depth of information that makes planning my food and meals exciting. I will write more about it as I finish up the commitment. If you are new, please don't forget to sign up for the Using the Resources of the Community class. It will make a huge difference for you. These classes will begin Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

**Testimonial of the Week ** *A joke with my dad this morning *Quiet time to myself *Doing yoga Hi I'm glad you posted. I had a lot of the feelings you describe when I joined this list three and a half years ago. Depression is very hard, and I'm sure everyone on this list knows that at first hand - that was one of the reasons I felt safe here when I first arrived, that people would understand what I'd been dealing with. Just doing breakfast doesn't usually heal depression all on it's own. It's the first step of the programme, and the programme, when done slowly and steadily, does heal the depression. At the start I was very impatient, wanted to feel better and for my life to be better right away, and when someone on this list said 'we heal at the speed plants grow' that felt too slow! But actually when you put a little cutting in some water you can see shoots within a few days - you don't have a whole plant, but you do have green shoots! What breakfast gave me, once I got it working really well, which took me longer than I first thought, was a bit of a place to stand. I was still depressed, but I had a little foothold, which was enough to have hope and move on to Step 2. Posting on this list most days helped me a lot too. Joy dots helped a lot, though at the start I wasn't sure about them. I felt desperate about weight until I had a solid Step 3. What are you having for breakfast? Do you know how much protein for your weight? My original calculation was massively under what I needed - I had totally misunderstood the sum. I thought I needed 4g when I needed 30g! Also, an hour was too long for me - I learned that I needed to get up and eat straight away, before showering or dressing or anything else - so 'within half an hour' was a better guide for me. What do you like for breakfast? When I started I had muesli and an omelette. Now I have a shake and wholegrain toast. Wishing you all the best, Rachel **********************************************************************
**Radiant Life ** I wanted to write a little about my holiday because it was an interesting year for us. First of all, we made a budget for presents and we have never done that before. And we didn't use any credit. I felt really good about that. The girls and I made a lot of gifts and so did Jon. He made this awesome gift for his mom and aunt--he took old 8 mm reel film footage (1950's) of the family and put it on a DVD along with songs that his grandparents had recorded singing on 78 records. We watched it Christmas Eve and there wasn't a dry eye in the room. That was wonderful. The most exciting part of the whole holiday was what had changed from last year. First, the food was less dessert-centered. I made a few "goodies" that my kids love and they ended up getting eaten as much as the fudge! I love that! Secondly, everyone in the family ended up making presents as well as buying. I can't tell you how it shifted things for us all. Last year was so depressing...tons of gifts strewn everywhere and we were all kind of overwhelmed and sad afterwards. This year my brother-in-law made us a bird feeder out of wood and also made all the adults these beautiful pens out of wood. Mine is made of Tulipwood and is cream colored with rose colored grain throughout. There was less stuff, but much more heart. Thirdly, I did not get stressed out. My in-laws, bless them, take on a lot, and when I go there I get caught up in it. I feel like I "need" to help them. This time I thought, "You know, I'm going to do whatever I can to help, but not get caught up in the stress of it." And I did. It made things much more enjoyable for me. Erin, my 7.5 yo, stayed with my in-laws for the rest of this week. It's the first time she's been away from home for more than a night. I was really uncomfortable with her doing that at first, but then as it got closer I just let it go. I worry that she will melt down and not be able to figure out what she needs (she's very ss), but I also see there a huge amount of growth that can come with this. My in-laws are just wonderful about the food now. My fil doesn't get it at all, but he complies. I'm also afraid she won't want to come home, lol, because my in-laws are spoiling her rotten. **Radiant Ambassadors ** Before Christmas I had a job interview in which I mentioned Radiant Recovery fleetingly. The interviewer was interested and gave me a knowing look. I didn't think it was the best time to run with my full story though! But I have been offered the job and will no doubt see the interviewer from time to time. You never know! Selena selenas@blueyonder.co.uk Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news. **********************************************************************
**How I Found Radiant Recovery ** I’m Bonnie. I live in Pennsylvania. I’m new to everything here, so I hope to learn about resources that I haven’t stumbled across yet. I am on Step 1. I found out about Radiant Recovery from Potatoes Not Prozac which I just recently completed. I started exploring the website. I need all of the help that I can get! **********************************************************************
** Radiant Recovery® Store ** David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son. I have the cookbook and it is tattered and dog eared from so much use. There are many great recipes in it that have become part of my standards (Kathleen's lasagna has never been matched, in my opinion), and it is also a very good little reference book. There are also spaces where I have written a few of my own in. The recipe for Kathleen's baking mix is in the book, and I use that too, it is quick and easy. - Verla I love getting these emails...yah the Cookbook is awesome. Even Madison is using it now. And Kathleen’s baking mix is way better than Bisquick!! Get a cookbook if you don’t have one yet. You won’t be sorry. Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better. **********************************************************************
**Radiant Kitchen **
Now, I know if I can make this and love it, you will too. I never thought I would like something *strange* like wild rice, but oh is it great. And I am hearing all sorts of wonderful things about its cholesterol-lowering properties. For more great program-friendly recipes, check out our cookbook in the store and visit our online Radiant Recipes site. **********************************************************************

**Our Online Groups ** The Radiant Step Two list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun! **********************************************************************
**Starting with the Program ** Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.
I see that we have a lot of new people streaming into the program. I am seeing lots of people who believe they have to get the sugar out now! "It is killing me," they say. "I HAVE TO take care of this addiction NOW." It is a good thing that we have awareness of sugar as a drug. But over and over and over I keep saying, "Don't focus on the sugar, focus on BREAKFAST." And they just think I am being silly and that I do not understand how important it is to deal with the issue right now. And man, no one wants to hear that this is just more addictive drama. Let's create crisis, let's put our brains into shock, let's be bold and brave and tough it out. After all, breakfast is so, so boring. I mean, what relationship could breakfast have to healing addiction? Those of you who have been around for a while know that we are doing something very different here. We are doing healing. We are building recovery one small step, one nano step at a time. A good breakfast, a good breakfast on time. We are learning to have protein, best browns, and then we learn to wake up, to move from vague to aware with journals. We learn steady state, consistency, attention...and when it comes time to do the sugar, it is simply not an issue. No dramatic *detox*...no blazing lights or trumpets, just, oh, yah, I forgot to have it today. But everything changes. Everything. So we do not have sound bites about the sugar. Except maybe Eat Breakfast. But we have answers, we have healing and we have knowing. I hope you will come on board. It sure is fun. Work on step one. Even if you think you already are doing everything else…Just step one. Beginner's mind. Thanks for reading! If you know someone who could benefit from this, feel free to forward it to them.
