Weighing in at the Doctor's

The Weigh-In

When you think of going to your doctor, probably the first thing that jumps into your mind is that awful moment when the doctor's 19-year-old assistant in a pink smock tells you to get on the scale. That is an awful moment for all of us who are sugar sensitive and overweight. Sometimes this moment is so awful that we actually avoid going to the doctor because we want to avoid it. But you do have some choices. You can decline being weighed and give them your weight according to your scale at home. Or, you can stand on the doctor's scale face out and tell the young lady in the pink smock that you do not want to know your weight. She can simply put it in the chart.

Before you are weighed, take off your shoes and wear your lightest-weight clothing. We all do this. You can laugh at yourself and know that even I do it when I go to the doctor. But don't skip eating your breakfast on the morning of your appointment as a way of reducing the reading on the doctor's scale, okay? I know how much we all want to cheat, but remember, the whole process you are starting is one of rigorous honesty with yourself.
